The Stanley Parable sells 100,000 copies in first week, on the way to Mac soon

Monday, 21st October 2013 00:09 GMT By Brenna Hillier

The Stanley Parable only launched on PC late last week, but has already hit a significant sales milestone.

In a launch postmortem on the game’s website, Galactic Cafe confirmed the unusual narrative-driven title has passed 100,000 sales.

“This is a lot more than we were expecting, and the shock of a successful launch may have been one of its biggest challenges. Some of the repercussions of this success is affected by business decisions we made 18-24 months ago, long before we ever thought this was going to make any real money,” the development team noted.

The team credits this success to various factors including interesting trailers and customised demos for specific events and content producers, as well as the general release PC demo, which took months to write, three weeks to build, and has attracted up to 200,000 players already.

Although its currently only available on PC, creator Davey Wreden told GameInformer The Stanley Parable is on its way to Mac.

Thanks, GameInformer.

GTA had more sales than this crappy game

Just kidding… Still wondering if I should buy it, I liked the demo and all but I dunno.

Is it just an expanded version of the mods storyline? or is it a completely different story?

It’s expanded and grander in every possible way from the MOD. Much more refined with a lot more focus.

Definitely worth playing especially as the first example of a video game that explores its own medium without needing to pretend to be something else.

Unapologetically immersed in gaming tropes and culture.

@1 The Narrator is gonna invade your dreams for saying that.

It’s a lot like the mod, but more expansive. More of everything, pretty much.

The demo is definitely a seller. So far it’s a very funny game, and it’s worth every cent.

The fact that when I just searched for “The Stanley Parable” and the first couple of things that came up were very popular videos by PewDiePie makes me question whether this can really be a decent game…

PDP plays fucking everything and if you made a decision about what to play based on what he has’nt then you might be waiting awhile.

I do understand the reaction but he plays almost every horror game released, so I had to quickly develop a thick skin with regards to the horrible videos and the even worse fanbase.

@5 What kind of ridiculous attitude is that to take? Because it’s played by someone who is popular, it can’t be be as good as it otherwise would be?

I think there’s a word used to describe people with that kind of approach to things in life.

What was it again? Oh right… hipsters.

Judge the game on its own merits.
