Dead Rising 3: exclusive gamescom demo contains explosive action, lots of undead

Thursday, 29th August 2013 14:12 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Dead Rising 3 promises to be just as crazy, violent, and chaotic as other entries in the series. VG247′s found this out first-hand during gamescom when Capcom Vancouver producer Mike Jones walked him through a demo of the game. Have a watch below.

Along with detailing some of the SmartGlass featuring in the game, the new combo abilities were also on display.

As you will see, you can use these combos to create a personalized vehicle which can provide zombies with a painful death – if they can feel that is, we’re not sure if these mindless shells feel anything other than a hunger for your flesh.

You can customize street sweepers, steam rollers, forklifts, motorcycles, cars, trucks – if it has wheels, you can turn it into a moving, squishing, shooting death machine.

Dead Rising 3 has been named as an Xbox One launch title and is slated for November.

and bad dated low definition textures and graphics.
Its a pity the Xbone is trying to hold back this gen. Atleast, when its thumped in sales, devs will lead on pc, then port to PS4, optimize it.

then, release the Xbone version to the 20-30million people that will own it in the next 6 years.

Those awful framerates , Those popping textures , Those hang ups

Wai- and they are using Frameskip too !!

Is this really Xbox One launch title Exclusive ?

“Microsoft is working with DR3 devs on that”

Lemme guess , This is close to the final version ?

    worst decision Crapcom made .

I expected it to look better, I thought the pathetic HD7790 in the X1 could do better than that. I see NO DX11 features at all, Which makes sense seeing as its a DX9 X360 port. Shocking how it struggles to work though…
I wonder if coding through that chunk of ESRAM is making the whole thing idiotically complicated to code for?

@1 Since you’re talking mostly about graphics and at the same time claiming Xbox One is already holding back this generation of consoles, I guess Ryse and Forza 5 would like to have a talk with you …

@7 i know right , if this was really close to the final version then expect RROD in all systems after the launch lol

This is exactly what i saw last week, same room and same demo. If they can get the fps stabilized it will be an awesome launchgame.

What a bunch of lowly fanboys. If you’re into judging a system by a single game, then i guess i can say PS4 will have horrible graphics and physics aswell, because Knack looks like shit?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcHfHwRMqMk

Objects/enemies disappearing off the ground, mere 2 seconds after you’ve destroyed them? lololol, what a shitty console PS4 is.

In all seriousness though, you all know next gen consoles are capable of far more than these games (Knack and DR3). Forza 5 and Killzone are great examples.

Where is the humour here? What happened to this series? It seems way darker than the original and pretty gruesome imo. Where is the Dawn Of The Dead humour and visual style to balance that over-the-top stuff out? It needs to return to it’s routes in more solid ways than simply having a shed-load of zombies on screen at once.

Being a darker game is good, the colorful humoristic style of the first two games put me off big time. That and the time limited missions. Pure garbage.

    Hopefully this one is better.

I refuse to partake in the Emperors New Clothes debate regarding graphics as what you are saying caries no weight.

What is impressive about Forza? Fake reflections? Baked shadows? Lack of day/night cycle? Lack of weather? DX8 tyre smoke? Smudgy textures on avatar gloves? Lowered damage model from 360 iterations?

And Ryse? Do you realise most of the background isnt technically real time graphics? Their pre-rended but even calling them such is giving them more credit than the smoke and mirrors they are. You cannot interact with ANYTHING other than the tiny path you must progress through. Its the next gen trickery of background CGI in old PS2 games like the Onimusha series or even Legend of Dragoon on the PS1. I dont believe Cervet Yerlis numbers, infact, I call them hogwash as he is talking about the highest LOD in the game for characters.Again, this is not “ingame”. Its as “ingame” as the in engine character cutscenes in Uncharted 2… Dont tell me you think you literally play Uncharted with those pre-rendered cutscene models do you? Also, the ememies basically have 3 face models for the entire army. Watch the SP and MP trailer and observe. Same as the roman soldiers. How is that next gen gaming? They have 5gb of ram and thats Crytek comes up with? What about the TERRIBLE animation, The movements are sharp and jagged. Why cut animation frames? Are all these hardware limitation? Didnt Crytek boldy state they were ready for next gen 3years ago? Did they think a HD7790 is next gen hardware?

    @UKNOWN_GAMER
With 32MB ESRAM and (LMAO) 5billion transistors (like saying my car has more cables than yours, its going to smoke you in a 1/4 drag race) Its going to run HOT. Given MS is a software company and the added heat from cheaping out on crap DDR3 ram, it makes it more prone to failure. More components ALWAYS = more chance for something to break. One of those 5 billion transistors go =RROD.

    @13

Where the humour is? I suggest you take a good look at the hilarious and over the top costumes and weapons. You make your own humour in it. I recently played DR2 and I really don’t see what is so much more ‘darker’ in DR3.

Where’s the humour? Right here in my Dead Rising 3 impressions from gamescom – http://www.vg247.com/2013/08/23/xbox-one-gamescom-creativity-the-cloud-something-about-titans/

@19 You believe everything you’re told. You must be pretty ignorant being the keyboard and monitor. All Im saying is, theres a $60 GPU in the Xbox One. Its not magic. Its crap. It is what it is. Dont be blind :)

do you all realize that this is an earlier build just to show off the progress on the game

So by your logic, a PC outfitted with specs similar to the Xbox 360 (~ATI 1800/1900XT or Nvidia 7800/7900GTX with a 3.2Ghz Tri-Core Power PC processor, 512MB RAM) would be able to run games like Gears of War 3, Halo 4, GTAV, Forza Horizon etc?

Consoles are far far more optimized than their PC counterparts, so you really have no clue how to compare the hardware in the next gen consoles with a modern day PC.

The Division (Running on PS4 during E3) looked better than ANY PC game out there right now.

  23. Templar_Dante

    LMAO
I know fully well how console optimisation works.
Do you realise the GPU in the X1 has 12CUs rather than the 14 on the PC HD7790? How about the fact that the GPU reserves resources for Kinect? Hence, the rumored 6+6 Compute units rather than 12.
Im just saying, on paper, this game is a 360 port to X1, It should run better. Why doesnt it?
The answer, I believe is two fold. Coding through the ESRAM and the GPU. Ofcourse, the CPU is the achilles heel of both next gen machines, but both are GPGPU in any case. So my question is, Is the 6+6 rumor true? Is Kinect reserving a bigger resource set than suggested? Is it trickier to harness CPU compute off the GPU than MS is making it out to be?
Games WILL get better.. console optimisation is awesome. But dont expect blood from a stone.
Its still a 1.2TFlop machine. While this game illustrates Capcom cant code for shit. Its a mysteriously why they cant lock it down at 30FPS and 1080P. is the ESRAM to blame? Thats my question.

    #23 12 months ago
  24. Hcw87

    @23
How can the ESRAM be blamed for anything, just because ONE game looks sub-par? Have you even compared this game to Forza 5 and Ryse?

Can a ”1.2TFlop PC” run Forza 5 at 60 FPS with the same visuals? I’m guessing not.

    http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/164934-xbox-one-bus-bandwidths-graphics-capabilities-and-odd-soc-architecture-confirmed-by-microsoft

Obviously, next gen consoles are far more different than your typical modern day PC, with things still being discovered/utilized as time goes on.

Bottom line is: Stop looking at the damn numbers, and look to the games instead. Nobody gives a damn what FFLOPS even mean, but people are easily amazed by the graphics shown by Killzone/Forza etc.

    1. Forza 5 is the best looking racer ever. Period.

    2. As far as I can remember, Capcom games always run well. I’m willing to bet Dead Rising 3′s framerates will be fine come release time.

I read some of these comments before watching the video and i expected much worse than I saw. The game is being filmed off screen, how can anyone tell how good the game looks that way?

The game actually looked fine to me, it doesnt look bad at all. I love zombie games but never really got into this series much, but if your a fan of the previous games this one looks as good.

  29. Dendroball

@16 From your posts, I guess you’re an expertly skilled hardware and software engineer, all this technical jargon is boring and the majority of players only care about the games and despite everything you say Ryse and Forza 5 are looking stunning.

If Xbox One GPU is pathetic then the PS4′s one can’t be much less pathetic for you, in an ideal world Sony/Microsoft would create consoles with a GTX680 inside but we would have to lay down much more than 400/500$ to bring one back home.

People need to take a chill pill with console war. Just buy whichever console you feel more comfortable with. Same with games. All the hate and negativity. We are all gamers at heart anyways.
