Dishonored dev working on new, similar game with potential for multiplayer

Dishonored 2 might be a bit of a premature leap here, but Arkane Studios’ co-director Raphael Colantonio has said that the studio is currently working on a similar kind of game to Dishonored, and that it may have multiplayer aspects.

Speaking with RPS, Colantonio was asked if the team is going right into production of Dishonored 2, to which he replied, “I can’t say exactly what we’re working on yet, but I can say that it’s definitely going to be a similar type of game. Choices, multiple objectives, branching paths, and things like that. Those are our core values and they will stay that way.”

When asked if multiplayer is a possibility, Colantonio continued, “We might be interested by multiplayer. And this would not necessarily be the traditional multiplayer approach. But primarily, we are storytellers. That’s the part we like.

“So as long as multiplayer does not go against that – which is unfortunately often the case with multiplayer because you have to remove any story bits because they go at odds with the strict values of multiplayer – [we're interested].

“But yes, generally we’re more into single-player. Someone playing at their own pace, which is another thing that goes against multiplayer values. In multiplayer, there’s a group, so everyone has to worry about going forward or being shot at. But we’re also keeping an eye out for ways to do multiplayer the right way.”

We reported on the same interview last night, specifically on Colantonio’s admission that games like Dishonored are always a hard sell. Check out what he said here.

Interesting, Dishonored was quite amazing, I only didn’t like Silent Corvo, the story could have been much better if he talked, but anyway maybe they are not making Dishonored 2, but instead doing something like BioShock, you know, a another game in different universe, to keep the gameplay, but offer new stories.

though I really wanted to see a sequel where Corvo talks :D

They put a ton of lore in Dishonored about so many places the game never shows you. It would be crazy to ditch it all for some Bioshock style different universe sequel.

I’d love another game that has the same design values as Dishonored. ie emergent world simulation, but I care little for multiplayer.

I generally steer well clear of anything that asks me to connect online while I game. I don’t want the hassle, or the extra cost.

@2: hmmmm, actually that’s true, good point indeed, the history is so rich in Dishonored to be let go.

I think the Dishonored game was great but was full of lore that you couldn’t really immerse yourself in, they mention islands and continents that are not seen throughout the game, so i believe it could use a sequel to expand the Dishonored world but the multiplayer function could be fun if it was a co-op mode of sorts.
