Ubisoft to show off “new next-gen IP” at gamescom

Thursday, 1st August 2013 22:48 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Although Ubisoft isn’t hosting a conference at gamescom 2013, it will be showing off a previously unrevealed next-gen title.

Detailing its gamescom line-up today, the publisher said that it will “share details on a new next-gen IP currently in development” during the event.

Last month, Ubisoft said it would be skipping a conference this year to focus on its show floor presence, so we can probably expect a reveal during Microsoft or Sony’s conference.

Natuarally this mysterious tease is designed to surprise us, but the canny money is on Child of Light, which is getting a trade reveal at GDC Europe just days before. It’s a new project from Patrick Plourde, creative director on Far Cry 3 and lead designer of two Assassin’s Creed games.

We don’t know much else about Child of Light except that it is a “small project” at a big studio – Ubisoft Montreal.

  • Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag
  • Watch Dogs
  • The Crew
  • Rayman Legends
  • Splinter Cell Blacklist
  • Might & Magic: Duel of Champions Online Card Game
  • Might & Magic Heroes Online
  • Might & Magic X Legacy
  • The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot

Gamescom runs August 21 through 25 in Cologne.

Ubisoft are far and away the best third party (best publisher?) these days.

Really? After what they’ve done with FC3 and now Watch Dogs?

Footage shown before the games launched looks miles better than the final product. Hopefully i’m wrong about Watch Dogs, but it doesn’t look as good as it did during E3 2012.

I love most of their work, it’s interesting and they don’t seem to be afraid to try new things. (expect for Assassin’s Creed, boring game) … but, i have to say, now that i am both a PC and a PS gamer, that i hate Uplay on PC, if i get a game through steam, i have to use Uplay too, but i can’t just use Uplay if i brought it though Steam, that i can do with Origin, most of the game i got on Steam is also on Origin, where i don’t have to use Steam, to play the game and the other way around. With that said, when i play Rayman Origins on my PSVita or any Ubisoft games on my Playstation, it is so good, i really hope they keep up the good work with next-gen.

Ubisoft is doing the most interesting things going into the next generation, and am looking forward to whatever it is new that they’re bringing to Gamescom.

@2 It´s cause it was on PC running with a controller, And PC players running those games on the highest settings expirience the exact same gameplay as during the conferences. Today games like AC3 and BF3 runs at 30fps on console and the reason being ro get more graphics out of it to keep up with low graphics on pc. Don´t get me wrong they´ve done miracles with the console hardware today that I can´t even begin to understand how in any sort of way.

the graphics on e3 looks a way better than pc
but it’s only high res texture
even without the high res texture the game looks good
    and the gameplay is excellent
so it’s not a big issue
