XCOM-related package shows up on Videogamer’s doorstep

2K has been really quiet regarding XCOM of late, until it recently went so far as to remove official videos from its YouTube channel and taking the website offline. Last month, a report from Superannuation stated that the game may be in the process of a re-brand due to domain registrations for “” and “” popping up – so the culled assets and information seemed to indicate this. Today, Videogamer posted a video of XCOM related contents it received in the mail, proving – hopefully- that it is indeed a re-brand and not an all out cancellation. Watch for yourself below. Thanks, SplatteredHouse.

Great news! Best move they could have made by rebranding this game. It always did look promising, but it was unfair to the original xcom games to reshape it so drastically, so this move makes me happy. Especially because we did get a decent XCOM remake in Enemy Unknown, even if it was unnecessarily dumbed down for the masses.

Publishers need to quit fearing new IP’s, and instead putting faith in bringing back old ones with too much of a drastic overhaul. For example, even though it might be a decent game in its own way, I despise Eidos Thief reimagining. Its clearly not going to feel anything like a true Thief game what with its fast paced free running action and combat. They should have just made it a completely new intellectual property.
I wish they had done the same thing with Deus Ex HR to be honest. Its not that these reimagining aren’t very good, its that they cant possibly live up to the same atmosphere and feel of the originals.

  2. SplatteredHouse < Rev3Games also got an odd box! You can watch them "investigate" the curious contents from said box.
