Assassin’s Creed 4: numbered title is justified, argues Ubisoft

Monday, 4th March 2013 16:16 GMT By Dave Cook

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag isn’t just Assassin’s Creed 3.5, Ubisoft has stressed in a new interview. The developer has explained why the volume of new content on offer justifies the numbered title.

Speaking with CVG, lead content manager Carsten Myhill said of the game’s scope, “The whole feeling of the game is completely fresh and new. It will feel very different to Assassin’s Creed 3.

“I think it completely warrants the Assassin’s Creed 4 moniker, not only with the new name and setting, but the attitude and the tone of the experience.”

He added, “We want to make it clear to fans, and those who haven’t played Assassin’s Creed before, that this is a pirate game. The ‘Black Flag’ is there, it says ‘hey, this is the HD, open-world action adventure pirate game you’ve been waiting for’”.

VG247 has also interviewed Myhill and we discussed everything from boat-building to exploration. Check out our video interview here.

Ok, so why it is called “Assassins Creed”? It should be called Pirate Creed or Pirates 4…

yeah exactly @1, they had an amazing concept with the naval battles, so instead of forcing it into AC, why not make a new IP out of it !!!

But what about the 4? I mean they are basically starting new here. Desmond is gone.

The obvious reasons. The game will make more money with a brand attached to it then by itself.

I plan on getting it if it doesn’t have anything dealing with Desmond or that alien bullcrap. Who ever thought that was a good idea needs to be taken to the back room and smacked around.
