Phantasy Star Online 2 dated for PS Vita, beta details revealed

Phantasy Star Online 2 is heading to PS Vita next year, Sega has announced. The free-to-play MMO will also receive a closed beta phase early next year. Get the details below.

Gamespot reports that Phantasy Star Online will release February 28 in Japan, and that closed beta play will begin at some point in January.

The site also notes that the game will be free to download from PSN Japan, and will share servers with the PC build. Neither of these versions have been confirmed for a Western release, although the iOS and Android builds have been promised to hit these shores at some point in 2013.

Japan is also receiving a special edition of the game that comes with eight exclusive outfits, two-disc soundtrack set, 1,000 FUN points to spend on the game's marketplace, a MAG device - whatever that is - and three exclusive weapons. It comes in at 5,229 yen.
