Wii U console requires day-one update – report

Wednesday, 7th November 2012 09:08 GMT By Dave Cook

Wii U is out across Europe from November 30th, but game sites have started receiving their units for review now, revealing that Nintendo’s hardware requires a day-one update at launch. Get the details below.

IGN reports that the site’s Wii U required an update at first start. The site reports that the update added Miiverse, Wii U Chat, Nintendo TVii, and the eShop download store to the console, although it was unclear if other changes were included.

Wii U coverage is ramping up in the run up to the console’s US and EU launch, and began with the world’s first reviews of Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U.

VG247 has also had extensive hands-on time with most of the European Wii U launch titles, and we found them to be largely enjoyable, with ZombiU, Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros U and Trine 2 to be some of the best games on offer.

How does it update? Is it a quick incremental patch or a monolithic fat download similar to PS3?

Sitting around waiting for OS updates are one of the sucky things about today’s consoles.

It is a legit question tho Deacon. The PS3 updates are one of the reasons I don’t use the system that much. They are way to frequent and take a very long time. Nothing like wanting to jump on for a half an hour Netflix show and have to update for an a half an hour instead. Now I use it for occasional gaming and watching DVD/BR. I went in a disabled the internet for the system. When I am in the mood and have time for the system to do its thing, I conect for the net with it.

No way to know what WiiU stuff will be like until it comes out.

Like the saying goes, old times will always be better, although this is from a nostalgic point of view, in this regards is true, old generations were better in this regard, just put the cartrdige or disc and play, sigh… great times….

I feel really sorry for all those peeps with PS3′s who suffer from these constant updates… My PS3 must have come out the box with them already installed.

Oh I get the occasional one or two every month or so, they take about 2-3 mins max… Guess I’m just blessed with super fast internet too :-)

Maybe it also helps that I run mine everyday… Instead of leaving it off for months on end, then running off to complain ad nauseam on forums that it has a backlog of updates, that take too long :-/
