Gearbox: real-money auction house not possible on console

Steve Gibson, vice president of Borderlands 2 developer Gearbox, has told VG247 he doesn't believe real-money auction houses for action-RPGs - such as the one just implemented in Diablo III - are possible on consoles.

Speaking with VG247 at E3, Gibson said: "I don't think it's even a possibility for games that run on Xbox and PlayStation 3. I don't think we could even consider that.

"But I look forward to seeing what happens with Diablo."

Gibson said that Blizzard's move into the cash-trade world was a huge deal for action-RPGs.

"I'm really looking forward to see how that turns out for those guys, because that's a really big, new step to be happening in this genre."

Borderlands 2 was shown at E3, leading Dave Oshry to write in overflowing praise on its first-person one-upmanship over Diablo III.

Diablo III's real-money auction house went live last week.

The full video interview with Gibson - along with new gameplay footage - will be posted tomorrow.
