Analyst – GTA V to sell 14 million units at launch

Friday, 25th May 2012 19:08 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Stern Agee’s Arvind Bhatia said in a note to investors today he expects GTA V to sell 14 million copies at launch and provide $700 million in revenue for Take-Two Bhatia also said it’s “all but a given” that the game will release before the end of T2′s fiscal year on March 31, 2013. In its latest financial release, for fiscal year 2013, the firm expects revenues for Q1, ending June 30, 2012, to hit between $225 to $275 million, and $1.75 to $1.85 billion in revenue for the full year, ending March 31, 2013. So, it expects GTA V to do well. The previous entry in the series. GTA IV, shipped 13 million before the end of its first year on the market, and has now shipped over 20 million units. Thanks, Gamespot.

Umm, does he mean the release day by at launch? Cause if so he’s definitely smoking something. As much as I dislike CoD it is the biggest selling game franchise. MW3 only sold 6.5 million units on launch day their is no way GTA is going to more than double that.

Well launch = First month or two?

Something like that. The hype period.

The game is launching on 360, PS3 and PC so it’s possible but improbable.

I like the fact they expect it to sell so well yet there is little to no information about the game other than its setting.

Yeah, but that’s no doubt because they didnt want to take away ‘hype’ and interest for Max Payne 3. I really expect some news sometime soon now. You know how Rockstar is…out of the blue they come with new information or a trailer. But a 2012 release….i don’t see it happening. With GTA IV by now, there were already loads of previews and trailers.

Rockstar has always been tight on their info right until 6 months before release then the marketing flood gates open right up. I am not saying the game will not do well. I just find it funny that these analysts pull a number out of their ass that not even COD can do based on little to no information about the game.

Yeah that’s true. Man i just wish they would say something…i don’t even need new info, shots, trailers, previews that bad…all i want to know is if we can expect it this year or if it’s going to be a 2013 game :(

@5: That doesn’t matter. It’s all about the brand.

Then the brand has never pulled those numbers before so where is this number coming from? COD is a far bigger brand and it can’t even pull those numbers on launch.

Hell I wouldn’t say it’s unlikely. I mean, GTA’s an iconic brand, it’s what everyone knows Rockstar games for, and before Call of Duty became as big as it did, Grand Theft Auto IV was the top selling entertainment launch of all time. What’s to say that Rockstar can’t do that again?

Based on gta 4 absolutely no way it’ll pull half the numbers this guy is predicting!

Spike TV decided to tease next generation consoles at E3 so I wonder where GTA5 fits into all of that. It will likely be 360/PS3 but if it comes out in Spring 2013, roughly 6 months before new consoles will it look aged?

    I don’t know, I just want GTA5 now!

Well PC sales have really picked up since GTA IV with the popularity of Steam & the likes, so its definitely possible. Just don’t force me into that social club bs, should have tried getting a refund for L.A. Noire…

Well… I also think that this estimate sounds ridiculous. I just didn’t agree with your initial argument as to why ;)
The argument you made now though is roughly what I would say too.

GTA5 is coming out this year for sure. most likely october/november. No way will they release it alongside bioshock 3 next year

    #16 3 years ago
  17. Hazzarington

@16 Are you seriously saying that? GTA is a FAR bigger brand than Bioshock; there is absolutely no way that Rockstar will feel any stress if it released alongside the next Bioshock, which by the way is called Bioshock: Infinite, not Bioshock 3.

@17, They are from the same publisher, competition between your own franchises are never good.

It won’t be coming out this year most likely 2013 Spring-Summer.
