Kojima: Snake included in Smash Bros Brawl thanks to son

Hideo Kojima approved the use of Metal Gear Solid’s Solid Snake in Super Smash Bros Brawl thanks to his own son who was a fan of the series, the MGS creator told journalists (via Joystiq) in Washington last week.

“My child likes Super Smash Bros., so we play it a lot together. And he told me that there’s no character that you made in that game,” he said.

But besides his child’s love for the series, he also pointed the series didn’t have much of a presence on Nintendo platforms, even with the GameCube remake of MGS1, The Twin Snakes.

“As you know, we did make Twin Snakes, but generally speaking, there hasn’t been a lot of Metal Gear on Nintendo platforms. So from that perspective, I thought it was a good way to expose younger people to this character, Snake.”

Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai said at a Nintendo roundtable following the Wii’s unveil at E3 2006 and Brawl’s announcement that he was approached by Kojima to include Snake into Melee for GameCube, but was “deep in dev and it was too late.”

With Kid Icarus: Uprising now out the doors for 3DS, Sakurai’s next project is a Wii U and 3DS installment of SSB.
