Mists of Pandaria explored in four new trailers

Monday, 19th March 2012 22:19 GMT By Brenna Hillier

World of Warcraft’s next expansion, Mists of Pandaria, is shown in all its fuzzy, chubby, charmingly colourful glory through the break.

Blizzard is having something of a press blitz for Mists of Pandaria at the moment, but there’s still no firm release date. The expansion explores one of the Warcraft canon’s most mysterious races, which ahs proved a controversial choice.

These videos are listed as B roll, which publishers often take a dim view of when its posted in full, so get in quick.

Thanks, EvilAvatar.

So how long is it going to take for someone to “connect” these trailers to WoW dying, Blizzard wetting their pants in anguish and their impending doom being written all over the subtle desperation of this footage?

I’m surprised I managed to write all of that before it happened.

DSB, totally not a Blizzard fan boy. Nope. No sarcasm meant at all, here. I’m not detecting even the slightest bit of butt-hurting, there. Sigh.

    Right, moving on.

The main thing I really see wrong with this is the lack of decent art direction. Blizzard has been losing the plot more and more with that, lately. One area I saw it in was comparison images of the worgen.

At one point they actually had a semi-decent model, but then they redesigned it and now the head looks like a rat chomping down on matchsticks. Art is really important to me (as is world-building and lore), and this is why I suppose I’m so adverse to WoW. The art is just bad.

    I mean, the Pandaren?

The men look like human men cosplaying, sometimes just in make-up, and the women look like shapely raccoons. Nothing panda-related should ever, ever look like a shapely raccoon. This is a huge step away from what they were originally doing with the Pandaren.

So yes, art direction matters to me. I know what art direction is and maybe that’s why it matters to me.

So my problem with WoW is that it looks like a bit of a turd. And there’s really only so long you can look at one before you want to look at something that’s actually pretty.

Really. The lack of good art there just makes me very sad.

I mean, if you’re going to do pandas? Fine, do pandas! Personally, I have no problem with that. But at least make them actually look something like pandas.

    There it is.

Sorry to steal your thunder, but I’ve been writing that sort of thing on posts for other, competing MMOs. See, even though you’re not a fan of something, it doesn’t mean that you can’t apply a little rationale, or balance to what you write about it.

It’s not an art, but people sometimes make it seem that way.

I did notice a few seemingly manic ArenaNet fanboys hanging around (Well, just the one) singing deliriously high praises in no uncertain terms, for games that weren’t released yet.

Boy, they sure write long and deranged posts saying little or nothing at all, don’t they?
