Remedy not finished with Alan Wake following American Nightmare

American Nightmare is not going to be the last time you see Alan Wake in action, Remedy boss Matias Myllyrinne has promised.

Myllyrinne told Joystiq at DICE it still had a plan in place for the series as custodians of the IP.

“We’re crowd pleasers, we’ll do what the audience wants, ’cause usually that’s the good business move as well,” he said.

He also suggested digital could continue to play a part in the series’s future with the release of American Nightmare.

“I’m loving the digital [distribution] side and we’ll see how that evolves, but just being able to give people quick access to bite-size chunks of gaming is maybe more fun than working for years and years — taking the phone offline and closing the shutters– at least, this way, you’re able to react much more quickly to people’s desires and wishes.”

Myllyrinne said he’s hopeful the studio will have “one or two surprises” around the series, but that would obviously need to depend on how well American Nightmare and the PC version of Wake 1 does. He’s not worried, though.

“I don’t know. I don’t know if that would dictate it. If it bombs [laughs], then that’s certainly a signal, but we’re fairly confident that it’ll do well. We’ll certainly continue with Wake. Right now we’re focusing on getting the PC out next week, then getting American Nightmare out.

“And it’s too early to talk about what our next move is, but we’ve obviously put things into motion.”

Alan Wake PC launches next Thursday for digital distributors with a retail release on March 2. American Nightmare launches on February 22.

Good to hear. I think if Wake didn’t come out in the same fortnight as Red Dead the future of this series would be a lot brighter. RDR just sucked the air out the room and everyone totally forgot about any other release that month. And to think some people were skeptical about just how well RDR would do… Anyway im glad AW survuved this far and i hope AN does well.

Well I for one am definitely interested. They left the first (with DLC especially) at a tincy wincy bit of a cliff hanger. Will be interesting where the fuck they take it from there.

Yeah, I’m interested too. I don’t like their prior marketing shenanigans, but I’m not the shallow sort of person who’d damn the game because of that. (Though if the game were bad too it would make damning it very easy!)

I’ve been interested in Alan Wake for a very long time, though, and it always seemed like the sort of title that would be right at home on the PC.

@3/4 – How incredibly shallow of both of you. But then, considering you two I’m hardly surprised.
