UK charts: BF3 fends off UC3 despite 54 percent sales drop

Monday, 7th November 2011 09:45 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Battlefield 3, despite a 54 percent drop in sales from launch week, has managed to hold off Uncharted 3 at the top of the UK charts.

Another bit of consolation for EA, despite the sales drop, is it’s the first time a Battlefield has held onto the top spot for more than one weeks. The last BF game to be number one, Bad Company 2, was kicked off the summit a week after launch by Final Fantasy XIII last March.

Despite a heavy and agressive advertising push from Sony, the Naughty Dog epic sequel must settle for second. UC3′s launch is the 11th biggest for PS3 ever in the UK, with sales up 37 percent from Uncharted 2 in 2009.

Sonic Generations enters the top ten at the bottom end of it. Goldeneye: Reloaded for PS3 and 360 enters at 16.

Top ten for the week ending November 5 is below. Last week’s data is here.

  • 1 – Battlefield 3
  • 2 – Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
  • 3 – FIFA 12
  • 4 – Batman: Arkham City
  • 5 – Just Dance 3
  • 6 – Football Manager 2012
  • 7 – Forza Motorsport 4
  • 8 – Zumba Fitness
  • 9 – Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventures
  • 10 – Sonic Generations

It knocked it off the top in the PS3 charts, though.

Well you would kinda hope that by now a game like Uncharted would be the most sought after PS3 game. It is the best exclusive on the platform and it deserves to get top of the PS3 charts.

Considering BF3 is multiformat and Uncharted is PS3 only, is anyone really surprised?

The main story for me, that hasnt been picked up by VG247 is that FM2012 is still in the top 10 after almost 3 weeks, for a ‘dying format’ is something to celebrate.

The thing is, while PS3′s exclusives never manage to go to the top, 360′s always do.

@4, that’s cos most PS3 owners are people looking for a cheap blu-ray player :p

UNCHARTED 3 is epic, only played up til chapter 5 and i’m loving it, imo it’s defiantly more fun than number 2, which to me was a disapointment compared to the brilliance of Drakes Fortune. Also BF3 being number 1 on PS3, sorry but WTF, BF3 is a PC game and it’s bloody brillaint, but anyone getting it for console you should really build a PC, BF3 on low graphics is still higher quality than xbox & PS3, i’m not even joking. I currently run Bf3 on medium at 1080p it looks wicked, can’t wait to build a new pc.

@7 maybe financial situations dictate if someone can purchase a decent pc or not?

@5 yup that’s all I use mine for…the only good game I played on it was Heavy Rain…and SOCOM 4 was ok…but Killzone 2, Uncharted 2 and even MGS 4 weren’t that impressive…and DC Universe was a waste as well

Now my PS3 just collects dust…thinking of trading it in if I’d actually get a decent value for it but that’s not gonna happen…cost me 300 bucks in Feb when I bought it

~9 DC Universe is now free to play and a free game is never a waste

I get the feeling that a lot of people will be telling their friends to get Battlefield 3.

That’s how I got suckered in.

@4: Because there are more 360 players in the UK than PS3 players.

    You’re welcome.

It’s a shame for the players. Garbage won a masterpiece

@4, there are more 360s than PS3s in the UK. It’s not rocket science.

@5, the trolls can never make their mind up; one minute it’s “PS3s are only bought for Blu-ray”, the next it’s “nobody wants Blu-ray”.
