Ezio Auditore confirmed for Soul Calibur V – first footage

The first official trailer for Soul Calibur V’s guest character – Assassin’s Creed’s Ezio Auditore – has the Italian assassin in fine form.

GTTV has an exclusive on the trailer; check it out below.

Soul Calibur V is due on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in January next year. Ezio’s appearance in game was confirmed earlier today when Gamespot went live with a hastily-pulled video confirming Ezio Auditore’s appearance as playable character in Soul Calibur V.

Hitsuhiro Tagu, the game’s producer, said Ezio is a good fit as the franchise’s latest guest character because his historical setting is an aesthetically pleasing match with that of Soul Calibur V.

Ezio’s inclusion was rumoured earlier this week accompanied by an unconvincing but apparently entirely real screen grab. We’re expecting more information and some proper assets to follow the reveal.

Soul Calibur V is due in February next year, on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

At first I reeled in disgust at this, thinking “Oh dear, when cash cows collide! This is even more forced than Yoda/Darth Vader/The Apprentice last time.”

But in hind sight, that actually looked really awesome. Ezio fits in the Soul Calibur universe far more logically than the Star Wars lot last time (or Link and Spawn the time before that) and they seem to have done a pretty good job of integrating him with the SC world and fleshing him out as a genuinely enjoyable character, instead of the daft novelty of the Star Wars effort.

Love how these Japanese guys are always mixing characters from different franchises, even if they’re from competing publishers, never had a problem with it, even if it’s not entirely relevant.

Honestly, I wouldn’t even mind seeing product placement in games either, not so that it’s intrusive but say that you’re playing GTA V, it’ll have actual Coca Cola drink machines & billboards etc, although I’d imagine that R* would want to separate itself as far from actual life as possible while remaining realistic.
