The Walking Dead in production at Telltale

Thursday, 17th February 2011 22:29 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Rumours of a Telltale-developed adaptation of The Walking Dead have been confirmed.

A report on All Things Digital (via D’toid) outed the project, one of four expected to see official unveiling at a conference later today.

Telltale’s Steve Allison commented that the company’s goal is to hit one million downloads with a single title, and that The Walking Dead has the potential to become a $20-30 million franchise.

A subsequent interview between creator Robert Kirkman and IGN didn’t throw up any additional info other than it would be episodic, however, Telltale confirmed it would be released on PC, Mac, console, handheld, mobile, and social media sites by the end of 2011.

Dunno, i recommend reading the comic, the series is not even close to it’s greatness.

@1/4 As mentioned, it aired on FX a week behind the US airings… the dvd/bluray is due out in June in the UK.

@2 Agreed, the graphic novels are better than the series, with more tension, more character depth and development, and more emotional impact. But that said, the two are entirely different modes of story telling. TV requires faster-paced energy with less monologues and more viscera. TWD TV series is pretty much as good as it could have been. While the comic is more satisfying, if the TV had been a direct page-for-page transition, it would have been far too slow to keep anyone but fans of the comic interested. I’d rather have a slightly dumbed down, sensationalised TV adaptation than nothing at all. The TV show is great on it’s own merits, but you can’t expect it to capture every fine detail exactly as you saw it in the comics, any more than you can expect a two hour film to perfectly capture a two thousand page novel, or you’re setting yourself up for disappointment before you’ve even started watching it.

TLDR: bacon crisps are not real bacon, but both taste great in their own way.

The Telltale newsletter that went out last night indicates that this is based on the comic series, not the TV series.

    From said newsletter:

“Telltale is excited to announce games based on Robert Kirkman’s terrifying, mesmerizing Eisner award-winning comic series, The Walking Dead, with the first episode set to come your way this fall.

In The Walking Dead, zomb ies have taken over the world. But as the survivors soon learn, the living can often be more dangerous than the dead.

Telltale is working with series creator Kirkman – the mind behind other comic-book favorites including Invincible, Haunt, and The Astounding Wolf-Man – to craft stories that fit into the world he’s created.”
