uncharted 3

Holy balls, Nate! Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception has just been revealed in a just-published Entertainment Weekly report.

It will take place in the desert, as previously thought, and will feature Nathan Drake as he searches for a lost city which will see him at he Arabian Peninsula and the vast wasteland of the Rub’ al Khali Desert, with deception being a key theme to Uncharted 3′s story.

“When we first came up with the idea of sand, you see everyone’s eyes light up here and go, ‘Yeah, that’s going to be really hard — let’s do it!’,” said Naughty Dog main writer, Amy Hennig.

“We’re a bunch of nerds. We just look for something that will be a technical, artistic challenge, and allowed us to push into an area of the world and history we’ve never tapped into before,” added co-president, Evan Wells.

Story will also centre on the relationship of Drake and mentor Sully.

More time will also be spent on the game’s multiplayer, according to EW, and its co-op. But Wells says U3 aims to take on the “big boys.”

““We want to take on the big boys of the multi-player genre,” he said.

“It has become something here at Naughty Dog that will become an important part to all our games.”

The EW report also has the game confirmed for a late 2011 release.

The first teaser trailer for Uncharted 3 is below. It will get its full world premiere at the VGAs this weekend.

@9: If Drake takes his mask off, he looks nothing like that. In a shock outcome, it’s seen to have been Chell from Portal, all along! (which is why Gabe stayed away from PS3, for that long, because he wanted to ensure no-one could guess the Uncharted trilogy’s twist in the conclusion.)

    Excellent stuff. Always love Uncharted.

    #35 4 years ago
  36. Crysis

Safe to assume that Uncharted 3 is NOT Sony’s exclusive ‘Save the Date’ reveal on the 12th then, hopefully an entirely new IP or possibly the rebirth of a forgotten franchise, i’d rather Sony announce a new IP, I love Sony & how varied thier franchises are, they own nearly 90 at the moment i believe, i think Nintendo owns about 20, most of them gimmicky games to tack onto their gimmicky devices, MS even has more than Nintendo.

    #36 4 years ago
  37. AHA-Lambda

@34 – fixed for personal tastes:

    Uncharted 3
    Portal 2
    Arkham City

    for me at least maybe not beating 1998 then; i’m obv too cynacil D;

@36 – i thin its a fuller blowout of the same game actually rather than a new one. So i’d expect mroe UC3 on the 12th

    #37 4 years ago
  38. Crysis

@37, it says reveal & Uncharted 3 just got revealed, so i would expect more UC3 on the 11th, could be wrong & Sony’s just doing damage control on an accidental announcement & they’re still ‘revealing’ it on the 12h.

^ “The Seven Pillars of Wisdom” is on the desk in the teaser. Theres also 2 passports, Drakes notebook, an open book with a dawn map of France in it (along with some other drawings), a map of Arabia and a news paper cutout that looks like its in Russian.

^Their is a very good book by Tim Powers called Deception. It’s a supernatural espionage thriller set in the WW2 & the cold war era. It also touches very briefly on T E Lawrence, but focuses mainly on djinn & their influence on the world. These largest group of these djinn are found in the desert… I’d be very interested if this has been a influence for Naughty Dog.

    #60 4 years ago
  61. theevilaires

You know when I look back all the way to 2005 and remember all the people spitting on Uncharted it now makes me realize how great it is to say HA! I TOLD YOU SO!

All the XBOTS calling it a Tomb Raider rip off in 2005-06-07 are now eating their words. Some are so delusional to now even say Tomb Raider can’t be compared to it because they’re different games (LMAO!)

The point I’m trying to make is never count your chickens before they hatch. I swear I better not hear this BS at the beginning of next gen like I did this gen. SONY has proved time and time again that they make the best games this industry has ever laid their eyes and hands on.

I mean what can you say other than good stuff about a possible 2011 line up like:

    Twisted Metal
    The Last Guardian
    Socom 4
    Motorstorm Apocalypse
Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One
    Heros on the MOVE
    Resistance 3
    Yakuza 4
    ICO/SoTC HD remake Collection
    DC Universe Online
    Final Fantasy IV Online
    The Agency
    MLB The Show
    White Knight Chronicles 2
    Sly Cooper 4
    FF Versus XIII
    Uncharted 3
    and AGENT

….. Just pure incredible! SONY could release a 1st party exclusive hit every month of 2011 if they wanted to.

    3rd Party games like:

    Marvel vs Capcom 3
    Bullet Storm
    Mass Effect2
    Batman AA 2
    Dragon Age 2
    Portal 2
    Dead Space 2
    NFS Shift 2
    ….and many many more

    (WOW that’s a lot of 2′s) :D

There is no way in hell you will get a better gaming year on any other platform in 2011 than the PS3. If you still don’t have a PS3 you should be ashamed to call yourself a gamer and realize who’s the real fanboy. Uncharted 3 will single handily take down any title (quality wise) that tries to remotely challenge it…/looking at you GEARS3.

In 2011 SONY will rule again with UC3 as its ACE.

    #61 4 years ago
  62. Crysis

You REALLY love Sony don’t you TEA? either that or you hate MS as a bloodsucking vampire of a company & hate Nintendo’s childish image & don’t truely like the inconveniance of PC gaming, kind of like myself but you obviously take your hatred to a much more extreme level.

    #70 4 years ago
  71. Crysis

@69, i’ve been meaining to check out those trigger guards, imo the triggers have been the dualshocks biggest downfall since the original psone control pad, i’ve always had them get cramped up inside the controller & even the DS3 hasn’t fixed this properly, it often cramps up & sticks on L2 &/or R2, my DS2 actually had L2 AND R2 get stuck in the actual control, also the sticks could have better support, after a while it wears & becomes sticky, could also be more ergonomically designed for the players hand, who cares if it’s not a traditional dualshock design?

    #71 4 years ago
  72. Erthazus

    @OrbitMonkey, man.

Can you show me a picture of these attachments? I really need them too.

To be honest, if I *was* going to get a PS3, I’d simply just get this bad boy and a set of these.

That said, whilst it does look tempting, I have approximately six whole months of solid play-time for my X360 from the stack of unopened games I have (new additions being Vanquish and Alan Wake, with Castlevania on its way), so I really can’t justify the expense for *another* console I only turn on maybe four or five times a week.

@ObitMonkey, man, you are amazing. I never knew that they existed.

Thank you very much. Just preordered them. Thank you :) my life will be easier now.

  78. theevilaires

Gheritt make sure you put these on your DualShock for better overall heft and grip. So worth it man. They make holding the controller much better. The SONY ones are in the link. There are 3rd party knock offs out there but they look fugly.

The official SONY ones are the ones you want because they fit around the controller perfectly in every aspect.
Better get them fast too cause they’re hard as hell to find. I’m guessing SONY pulled them cause some baby probably was killed by one. Other than that I have no idea why these are so fucking hard to find.

I have a sweet blue glove around my black DS3 and a black glove around my white DS3. Feels great looks cool, must buy if you want the migration over from the 360 pad to be a smooth transaction.

see I told you. I have no clue why.

I don’t remember anyone “spitting” on Uncharted in 2005. Mostly because it wasn’t even announced until the following year at E3.

Well early 2006 whenever it was. Late 2005 early 2006. It was around that time and yes people were knocking it. Maybe not where you come from but over here people slammed it calling it Dude Raider and all sorts of crazy names.
