9/10 No other racing games have so much content. Also people who complain about no damage, damage in GT5 is progressive. You have to unlock it I think every 5 or 10 levels.

    #2 4 years ago
  3. Razor

All I can say is go and watch the GameSpot stream of GT5 to show how clueless the reviews are going to be.

As I understand it, reviewers only got copies of the game last Friday.

If that’s true, then how can any review possibly do any sort of justice to the game?

    #6 4 years ago
  7. Erthazus

I’m very excited about GT5. It’s a racing simulation game and i wanted it so much.

    There are so much content.

the only thing that i don’t like is that bonus cart racing game is full of shit and i really don’t need that or other bonus stuff that are not that polished.

But B-Spec sounds absolutely fantastic and innovative. If it works like people were saying than no doubt i will play this a lot.

    #7 4 years ago
  8. Razor

“If that’s true, then how can any review possibly do any sort of justice to the game?”

    They can’t.

Bikki, it takes 6 months to model one car. You really think PD can model 1000 in five years? Get real.

    #8 4 years ago
  9. Bikki

Just found out that only 200 cars have cockpit view. That’s that. 6 fucking years and they couldn’t add cockpit view to all cars?

    #9 4 years ago
  10. Erthazus

@9 If they are not detailed there is no point in that.

    #10 4 years ago
  11. OrbitMonkey

Not that I’m cynical, but who’s gonna have the brass balls to mark this less than a 9? It’d have to be a Leisure Suit Larry size turd for most reviewers to feel confident enough to give it a 7.

    #11 4 years ago
  12. KBST

@7 You call this a racing simulation? Do you even have a driver’s license? Not having a Ridge Racer-like gameplay does not make a racing game a simulation.

    #12 4 years ago
  13. theevilaires

Cock pit view not be added in the previous installments of GT have never bothered me. I have always loved to see the entire car I’m racing with while playing. It will be fun to use the cock pit view but its no life or death deal breaker that not all cars have that aspect of playing the game.

I’m sure every ones fav high end line car will have it.
Besides he needs to add more momentum to GT6 with this minor set back. 3D will make up for it.

    #13 4 years ago
  14. Fin

    9/10 from most.

7/10 Edge/Eurogamer, who’ll actually review it as a game and not “simulation”.

The damage isn’t progressive or unlocked, it’s just really really really slow to show up on the car.

    #14 4 years ago
  15. Erthazus

@12 “You call this a racing simulation?”

I don’t know. I never played Gran Turismo 5 retard and going to try it tomorrow.
GT4 was a perfect simulation for PS2 era. Same goes to games like iRacing and rFactor.

“Do you even have a driver’s license?”

    yes. Next question?

“Not having a Ridge Racer-like gameplay does not make a racing game a simulation.”

    wait… What?

Have you ever played rFactor or iRacing or X Motor Racing? I think not.

  16. cookiejar

    9/10 I reckon

@14 Funny you should say that. They had playable copies in HMV yesterday, and in between the pile of people crowded around the thing, one of the players said “The handling is shit! Its nothing like Burnout!” – as he went round the corner full throttle.

    I just chuckled to myself.

    #16 4 years ago
  17. OrbitMonkey

Tbh I always thought Gran Tourismo wasn’t so much a racing sim, more a perfect slice of car porn pie. Hence the lack of damage.

    #17 4 years ago
  18. El_MUERkO

My copy turned up today, I may get to play it for five/ten minutes tonight before bed but not again till late December :(

    #18 4 years ago

I played the hot-lap, demo thingy, and it was exactly the same center pivot, slippy-slide, wall bouncing gameplay that I played on the PS1.

It’s nowhere near realistic, but it doesn’t look cartoony, which makes it a sim in your average joe’s (who doesn’t know much about cars) eyes.

    #19 4 years ago
  20. KBST

Glad you like GT4, because they scaled ~800 cars up in order to use them in GT5. And yes, I’ve played X Motor Racing and also GTR, Gran Turismo feels not even close to those games.

“I’m very excited about GT5. It’s a racing simulation game and i wanted it so much.”
“I don’t know. I never played Gran Turismo 5 retard and going to try it tomorrow.”

You are so full of crap.

    Prove link?

“You are so full of crap.”

Where? Because i liked previous games and didn’t tried this one but excited about the game?

    #22 4 years ago
  23. Razor

The Jeuxvideo review is just a sign of things to come. Game is going to review badly.

    #23 4 years ago
  24. Bikki

@8 Modelling a cokpit isn’t like modelling the whole car. And they dont have do be so detailed as the premium cars. Just cockpit view. @22

    #24 4 years ago

Link to this alleged Jeuxvideo review, please!

    #25 4 years ago

Never mind, I found it myself.

    Tranlated quote:

Side gameplay, we must admit that the first contacts with the beast are falling rapidly excitement. To think that five years of development were used for anything else to correct and evolve the gameplay ! So to say, the disorientation is zero, each mechanism to the price series has been renewed, whether good or not. Besides a sense of speed not always obvious to outside (even with racing animals), we must deal with a hyper-rigid behavior that prevents any skill or improvisation. Gran Turismo is always a game against the clock than a true racing game. It feels fast when in fact the first contact international bodies disrupt the soundtrack of sound effects in part failures. Can we still rely on an opponent to take a turn? Yes. It always bounces back strongly in returning to a safety rail or in an invisible wall? Yes. TheAI seems still as heavy and ever-present in its path? Yes. Is it still possible to cut one shift commonly without fear of any penalty? Yes (Not online). So developers are stubborn and they buried in a lot of obsolete ideas or did they prefer not to take risks to avoid offending the fan-boy that digests poorly scenery? Probably a little of both. The fact is that Gran Turismo has gone from being avant-garde to the simulation almost obsolete.

  27. Dr.Ghettoblaster

Been playing it since Saturday. Worst issue you will see in all reviews? Loooooooooong load times. Yes even AFTER the optional 8GB install. Post-install, cars take at least 3-5 seconds to load up in selection screen, and tracks still take appx 15-20 seconds.

I know this MIGHT come accross nit-picking, but when your shuffling through a bunch of cars and just want to see looks and stats fast, these load times REALLY hinder the experience.

Other than that, seems pretty fantastic so far. I hope a future patch can increase load times even more.

    Copy in hand.

Now… Has anyone got a working PS3 they can lend me?

    #28 4 years ago
  29. The Hindle

Its going to get the same scores as GT 5P and GT 4, so a 8 from Eurogamer a 7 from Edge and 9s from IGN.

    #29 4 years ago
  30. Erthazus

@24 I think this is just assumption. Yeah, it’s true that previous cars returns from the previous GT series…

but if they are upscaled, holy… Well, i’m going to try it out tomorrow anyway.

    #30 4 years ago
  31. onlineatron

Also, from watching those IGN videos… Does anyone else think the non-city environments look a bit poo.

It’s kinda like the Heavy Rain/GOW3 thing where most parts look stunning but some look positively last gen.

“Also people who complain about no damage, damage in GT5 is progressive. You have to unlock it I think every 5 or 10 levels”

    Progressive damage??
why on earth would that be a good idea????

    #35 4 years ago
  36. Kuwabara

AT “CENOBIT” Because the better you get at the game, the less damage you will do. Car manufacturers dnt want to see their car getting damaged realistically, and thats exactly what would happen with a lot of noob gt5 players. They limit the damage at the start, and make it more realistic as u get pro, to avoid the damages. That way they get what they want, and polyphony dnt have to worry about their game not having realistic damage.

I totally didn’t expect this, but i am shocked by the very negative comments so far on forums. I wasn’t gonna buy the game anyway, it’s just not my thing, but it sucks for the true fans.

  39. Crysis

@32 If these karts COULD go in reverse, they would go the same speed as they would going forward, since these 100cc karts have direct chain drive . CVG made the same mistake as you – – read the update
They’ve done this because if you f#ck up, your game is done, so they have done that for the sake of playability.

  56. kdogg

I’ve been playing the game for the last 2 days and all I can say is that if you’re a fan of GT then you’ll absolutely love it, it really is brilliant but very familiar. If you’ve never enjoyed the series then this game won’t convert you, it sounds like I’m stating the obvious but thats really how it is.

    So 8.5 is the vote.
if it’s true that you have to play a lot of time to unlock features like damages, cars etc, are these reviews accurate?

Loved the fact that TSA didn’t give it a score. Four days – including just one for the multiplayer(according to Oli over on EG) really doesn’t seem enough to properly appreciate the scope of this game.

Also, there’s one paragraph in their review that pretty much sums up why I love this series:

“And besides, how can you objectively quantify a game of this scope anyway? Yes, you can discuss the technical merits of GT5′s massively improved physics model, you can dissect the graphics and you can analyse the multiplayer (and we will) but surely the bulk of the game, the aforementioned GT Mode, is a personal, subjective experience that’s so carefully open and purposefully organic that it’ll be an entirely different game depending on the individual, rewarding the player through a constant supply of new cars, new trinkets and the ever addictive crawl of the RPG-like level bar. Like no other racing simulator in the past, Gran Turismo 5 gives back as much as you put in.”

    #64 4 years ago
  65. Crysis

I loved the Gran Turismo series as a kid, but i’m not a car fanatic, in fact i know next to fuck all, but Gran Turismo has by far been one of my fav franchises of all time, I’ve enjoyed NFS, but after a few hours, it all feels meh at best, atleast with Gran Turismo there’s always been hundreds of cars to horde & win, next one will likely have drag & drift races :P

When are the Epic Mickey reviews out?

  67. ReeceHeywood

I love how IGN always pump up a game and even go to the trouble of making articles about when they will publish the review(s) then the games don’t even amazing scores.

I’m not saying 8.5 isn’t a great score but the way IGN always does you would they they was going to award it a 9.5-10.

    I’m surprised at those scores.

Looks like GT5 will end up with a lower Metacritic score than NFS Hot Pursuit!

Got my copy last night, its a cracker of a game. Its gonna take ages to do and unlock everything, and it looks the cats whiskers.

Just wish it had been out a couple years before!

    #72 4 years ago
  73. Erthazus

Someone expected it to be 100% for every fucking review? Not going to happen.

I’m playing it right now since the morning and it’s absolutely fantastic. It’s a great sim.

If you are going to play it with the controller, the game is not for you. You will be turned off by physics and e.t.c. with cheap bump thing with the walls.

This game is a simulation of driving and thats exactly what i wanted from the beggining.

The only thing that i hate about it that there are tons of stupid unlocks, stupid bonuses and not so much of a tracks.
But every car feels natural with my wheel and have it’s own build.

GT4 scored for 89 in metacritic and it was still awesome simulation game. The best out of 4. GT5 will blow the others? I still need to check B-Spec.

How can you score this game for 100% or more if reviewers in most case see that this is not the game. It’s not a RACING game and never was one and NEVER will be one.

It is fun regardless of the reviews. As for B-spec choose a cool driver and make sure your first car is decent. Anyone with the collector’s ed can choose a few good ones. But for the rest EUNOS gives better results for the drivers amongst starter cars.

p.s. Majin is doing ok with reviews, Splatterhouse seems to be pretty terrible and has exclusive unlocks. Epic Mickey isn’t web-reviewed yet.

I’m a bit disappointed by the multiplayer options. PD need to pull their fingers out and start working on offering us some of the options which have been present in many of the other racers this gen.

It’s really barebones at the moment.

I must say, these scores are a bit disappointing after 6 years of hype…

@78 Thats the trouble. It was hyped. Its a stunning racing game, and proper racing fans will love it, but is it the best game in the world? No, course not. But thats what people were making it out to be.

Its like the Beatles on iTunes the other day. Everyone was expecting Apple to blow peoples minds again with some massive earth shattering surprise. Then they got pissy when it was just the Beatles.

The point is, its a properly good racing game. Thats all it needs to be.

  85. Sleazy Bastard

These aren’t bad reviews at all. For a game with a premise to be the best in class, with a development of 6 years, (I would expect the press to be harsher to a game in these circumstances and premise), the reviews are great but also consider the fact that Forza 3, released one year ago, is an overall better game than GT5.

So far framerate, tearing and shadows are quite a mess.

Just another nail in the coffin of the notion that longer development times make for better games. Really, it just makes for overproduced ones.

You know what was also an EG 9? Forza Motorsport 2 and 3.

Honestly I doubt that those are as good as this, but I just couldn’t help myself from trolling that shit.

    #89 4 years ago
  90. Dr.Ghettoblaster

Just because a review score is the same, certainly doesn’t mean the quality of the games are….

I look at GT5 as the caviar of racing sims. Absolute top of the line quality.

If I wanna just have fast mindless arcade fun, I’ll play NFS: Shift.

    #90 4 years ago
  91. DaMan

Dr G: Splatterhouse was given a 6 by Eg yesterday.

btw, I think if you give 9s to similar games, that means they’re equal….

    .. I also think 9 > 8, and 6 < 7

    #91 4 years ago
  92. Dr.Ghettoblaster

Yeah i saw the one review on metacritic, just though it’s funny sitting there all alone…lol.

I’ve learned overall to not trust review scores a long time ago. IGN consistently proves me right in this department…

And I would DEFINITLEY disagree that same score to similar games means they’re equal in quality, with new Castlevania being prime example for me anyway.

    #92 4 years ago

    #93 4 years ago

well, yeah er, which is why it’s the ‘overall’ score. ie, I myself would rather play a fun game that lacks polish as opposed to a quality yawnfest.

    #97 4 years ago
  98. theevilaires

All the XBOTS were waiting for this day to find just one thing bad about this game. the point is this is a $60 game worth every fucking penny more than any forza title combined.

Obviously PD need to put GT6 on PS4 as a launch title because they can’t get more out of the PS3 at this point. Move on to the next best thing and learn from the mistakes they made here. Despite the small hiccups this game has still earned high scores. No other racing “SIM” can compete on its level of what it has to offer.

For those who are trolling (obviously Mushroom) by saying you’d rather play NFS then by all means go. NFS is an excellent racing “ARCADE” game not a “SIM” like GT5. I just hope you at least payed for your copy in a store ;)

    Yes, 200 out of 1000 is 20%.

I did hesitate to use the word, but the fact that 800 cars don’t have a cockpit view was the important point here, I believe.

  101. MushroomStamp

Teabag, STFU sony sheep. I’m not trolling, I merely chimed in like everyone else. And just for your info, since you know nothing but think you do, I haven’t bootlegged a game in almost 2 years.

  102. theevilaires

How many cars does Forza or any other racing game have these days? Yea I say 200 cars are good enough. Who the hell wants to see the inside of a Honda civic. Just go to your local mall parking lot and look inside someones car.

Now the Audi R8 is what people really want to see inside. As long as the most exotic and popular street racing cars have cockpits please stop crying. This is a $60 game worth every penny that’s going to give you months on end of replay value on single player and multiplayer sides.

Mushroomnuts welcome to an honest living. You can now walk among society as a decent human being.

    #102 4 years ago
  103. Dr.Ghettoblaster

Personally, I prefer to see the 200 cars with cockpit view as amazingly awesome, rather than the 800 cars without it as a negative. Again, this is probably due to being raised on Atari.

Regardless, incredibly remarkable game well worth $60.

    #105 4 years ago
  106. theevilaires

Also I’m curious how many people here are playing this in 3D…..(crickets) exactly!

GT5 is the ultimate driving experience sim on consoles to date. Enjoy or lose out, your choice.

    #106 4 years ago
  107. Dr.Ghettoblaster

“though it’s probably worth taking issue with the fact that we saw a fair few of those cars in GT4…”

I have heard that, but I’m not sure of it’s validity at this point to be honest. Even if true, there’s only so many cars in the known universe. If anywhere from 200-1000 doesn’t please oneself, I’m afraid nothing will.

    #107 4 years ago
  108. G1GAHURTZ

Nah, it’s just a personal preference.

I played through most of TDU with the wireless wheel in cockpit view, because I like my driving games as immersive as possible.

I also played through most of MC:LA in cockpit view, and I still keep it the same when I just go for an online cruise or something.

Again, the first thing I did with NFS:Shift was put it in (or leave it in) cockpit view, because I like to feel like I’m driving the car, rather than remote controlling it.

The problem that I have with in-car view without seeing the inside of the car is that the camera usually ends up feeling like it’s just a few cm off of the road, because the bottom of the screen is basically only ever tarmac. Even when you use a wheel it just doesn’t feel right. I just end up feeling like I’m sitting on the end of the front bumper or something.

I’m sure that the majority of people use behind the car view, and I’m sure that 200 cars is more than enough to enjoy cockpit view with, but it would have been nice if the whole game was consistent.

Still, as long as the top cars have interiors, I’m sure they won’t be missed by most people on the rest…

What i heard from alot of people and also see for myself in gameplay videos is that the graphics look very clinical? Is that the right word? Compare it to Forza 3 , and you’ll notice that Forza 3 is much more pleasing on the eyes and more lively.

And not only that, i’ve read quite a few reviews saying the exact same. Kinda a shame, cause this was hyped up to be ‘destroying’ every racer out there in terms of anything.

    #110 4 years ago

with so much content, this game deserves nothing less than a 9.5/10! the reviewers barley had a copy of the game for more than a few days. Theres no way anyone has spent enough time in each mode, offline and online, to appreciate it enough. When u read the reviews, u see they give the game lower scored due to their time with the game and the fact they discovered flaws or small minor issues. Had they reviewed this game a month later i bet it would be averaging high 90″s!

    #117 4 years ago
  118. tatsujin

WTF? People are seriously comparing Forza 3 to GT5? Are you guys fucking serious? GT5 is 1080p with better graphics than that shitty ass wanna-be racing game Forza 3. Go back to your 360′s and play the game since your so devastated to compare it to GT5. The 1000+ cars is great to have because you know why? There are enough cars to please MORE fans that have a specific eye on some cars. Not some 400 cars and lol-lets-patch-this. Oh, I forgot to mention. What type of Audio is Forza 3 using? Thought so.

Focus on GT5 scores and quit fucking comparing this to Forza 3 because seriously, that piece of shit game can go back and rest in piece like the other junk.

    #118 4 years ago
  119. Moonwalker1982

    @ 118

Could you be the definition of a fanboy? Cause i really do believe so. WHY are you catching feelings about a freakin’ videogame? You are acting as if YOU made the PS3 and this game, how more defensive can you be? Not much if you ask me.

For your info, i read in a review(and no doubt more than one) where they said that in terms of graphics Forza 3 simply wins. Even that reviewer said he never expected to say that, but he did. Then plenty of people on forums who awaited the release of GT5 like crazy, saying how dissapointing the graphics eventually turned out, sometimes it looks great, sometimes it looks…ugly. And no these are not fanboys like you, these are just folks who enjoy good games and are honest and objective. GT5 looks clinical and cold, especially compared to the much more lively and enjoyable visuals of Fm3.

But really, why am i even replying to you. Your nonsense and ridiculous ‘hate’ towards Forza 3 is a good indication of how sad you really are. Forza 3′s audio and visuals are damn fine, and sorry but IMO and reviews and plenty of people in general place it above GT5. Now go cry, shit.

    #119 4 years ago
  120. theevilaires

Moonwalker let me assure you Forza is not better looking than GT5. Now I know you all may say yea right I’m bias but honestly I’m the one who has both and not you. If you think some reviewers out there aren’t bias than you’re a fool.

Not only that but when Forza does 3D then you say something. GT5 is not flawless but its damn sure leaps and bounds better than Forza. I’m playing on a 55″ 1080P 240HZ 3DTV and I’m loving every second of it. This truly is the drive of your life.

I give GT5 a 9/10 Photo Mode is pure awesomeness and the 3D pics you can take will leave you speechless. MUST BUY GAME NOW. Worth every penny of $60.

  122. Psychotech

WoW there’s a lot of whinning around this lately and most of it comes clearly out of jealousy.
Gt5 isn’t the pinnacle of racing-sim games. It never was.6 years under development people had insanely high expectations about it although personally i don’t believe the game was actually under development for 6 years.
The game is good one of the best actually on it’s own kind.

which is better this or Forza?neither

they’re both better with each other.Forza has features that you won’t find on a GT game or are much better and vice versa.End of story

don’t believe everything you read.Believe on your own eyes. The ammount of bitching i have seen about GT5 on articles, forums etc. lately is tremendous and most of it comes from 360 fanboys(trolls),they’re too obvious while others take a more stealth and polite approach mostly out of jealousy plus to spoil the fun of others.

If i’m not mistaken you’re the one who mentioned the other day that ps3 fanboys are worse than their 360 counterpart.
go through many Gt5 forums, articles etc. and you’ll instantly change your mind.Even on Halo i haven’t seen so much trolling.

As for F3 vs Gt5 i explained the situation above.I have F3 since release and i played Gt5 recently and in terms of graphics i can already tell since i’ve seen it with my eyes that even though there are some drawbacks here and there and the graphics are a little bit uneven there are some tracks, car models and some other minor elements that look much better than F3,they’re really jaw dropping but unfortunately it’s not the whole game like this.

    #122 4 years ago
  123. cookiejar

I never got into the Forza series. Yeah 3 looked good and I’m sure it has a massive fan base, but Gran Turismo is something special. Can’t explain it, but I get a satisfaction from playing GT that I never got playing Forza.

PGR however, I adore. For me, its the best racing series Microsoft has.

    #123 4 years ago
  124. Moonwalker1982

    @ 122

That really is too bad about the graphics not always being so impressive. But i recall reading about that in reviews too. Race during the night with rain and it looks ace,but there’s also several tracks during daytime that look downright ugly. It’s a shame they didn’t balance this well.

A example from a review i talked about. From

” Gran Turismo used to be the benchmark for visuals, but over the five years it’s taken to put GT5 in a jewel case, the game’s begun to look decidedly pedestrian. Overall – and we NEVER thought we’d say this – we reckon Forza III has the march on GT5 in overall aesthetics. “

I don’t care much for reviews anyway, when it comes to whether i wanna buy something or not, but when i do check reviews. I always checked out CVG and never had any problem with those. I actually apreciate their reviews most of the time. But to each their own of course.

As for the graphics, some friends who got the game told me just like the reviews; sometimes it looks damn good and sometimes…not so good. Sometimes the graphics are a 9, sometimes they are a 6. I can understand why people are dissapointed about that though.

Where can i see some high quality GT5 gameplay movies? For some reason the ones on Gametrailers look like crap .

  128. theevilaires

“Where can i see some high quality GT5 gameplay movies? For some reason the ones on Gametrailers look like crap “.

You go down to your local game store and purchase a copy of GT5, go back home and play the game (if you have a PS3 and HDTV). There you can watch all the great GT5 high quality vids you want :D

    #128 4 years ago
  129. Moonwalker1982

    @ 128

I got a PS3 yeah, but i can’t buy the game. For the rest of the year i can’t really buy a game anymore. There’s still plenty i wanna buy but my wallet strongly disagrees with me now. He told me i should finish all my current games first, and he’s right, lol. ;)

And also…i’m not a huge racing-simulation fan. Sometimes alittle Forza 3 is fun but not for very long. I’m more of a RPG fan and shooter. And sometimes a bit of the arcade racers. Some PS3 exclusives next year i’m gonna get, but i really ain’t sure if GT5 is gonna be one of them for me. I was just interested in seeing some gameplay videos though, that’s all :)

  130. Psychotech

@124 When you’re reading a review where the reviewer mentions another game as better most of the times the reviewer is biased towards that game.
Since F3 and GT5 have each other as direct opponents and more so between two major companies in console gaming(we rarely see that) its only natural those who are biased towards one product will badmouth the other.
As i said you have to see it with your own eyes but still that won’t be enough you’ll have to experience it.
if you feel torn give it a rent sometime that will also be the best way to satisfy your need of seeing some gameplay firsthand

Dont care about the reviews for this one, the game is absolutely amazing. Load times are nowhere near as bad as some led me to believe. Only complaint I have is that some shadows have huge jaggies, but everything else is gorgeous. Weather effects are as good as Ive seen in any game.

BTW anyone who compares GT (or Forza for that matter) to NfS is very silly.

sg1974 you are so right on with your post man. The lies about the loading times are so crazy and far beyond the truth all you can do is laugh and imagine the people who wrote those reviews were major XBOTS. The only issue this game has is the shadowing of the cars which have jaggies.

This is a 1080P 3D game and if thats the only issue a massive game like this has then hell I’ll deal with it any time-any day. for those of you who don’t have I ask you WHY? What are you waiting for if you already have forza. For those of you who do have and are not using 3D….OMG you’re missing a whole other side of the game….and for those who are experiencing this like I am on a 50″+ 3D 1080P TV…..welcome to gaming heaven!

I can’t wait to enjoy another gaming genre on this TV. KZ3 is next and what GT5 3D has done for racing KZ3 will do for FPS in 3D. This is truly PLAY B3YOND game play. Thank you Kutaragi :D

  134. Psychotext

I don’t know that’s the only problem it has. It tears like a bastard, the framerate tanks from time to time (it spends more time at ~50fps or below than 60 unless you’re on a rally track) and the shadows flicker on and off. Plus loading really is quite bad, even installed, with some tracks taking over 30 seconds… and that’s before you consider all the time spent loading menus, loading cars, saving etc etc.

That’s before you get to some of the really odd design decisions in the game. Still, great game though, even with the flaws.

    #134 4 years ago
  135. tatsujin

@119 STFU dumb ass. Go back and play Forza 3. Because you know what? You and the rest of those who can’t accept the motha fucking fact that GT5 has its own facts to shove across Microsoft’s face. Seriously, this is a GT and PS3 article. Not some fucking ripped-shit game on a machine that has its multi-issue problems.

Btw, load times are between 3 to 5 seconds. I’m amazed how these so-called “reviewers” can do a half-ass review on a game that’s been worked for ages.

    #135 4 years ago
  136. Psychotext

“Btw, load times are between 3 to 5 seconds.”

Uhh… no. Unless you’re talking about how long it takes to load a car after you’ve selected it in your garage.

    #136 4 years ago
  137. theevilaires

Did you install the game psychotext? because i’m no where near having those same time lengths to load a track. Its 7 to 10 sec tops for me. I can’t imagine your HDD is loaded with other content and that being an issue because you rarely (once every planetary alignment) use your PS3.

Or maybe its because I’m using 3D….Who knows but my load times are as average as any game I’ve experienced so far. I picked up an “original labeled factory sealed” Mass Effect for XBOX360 this weekend. I was going to get it for PC and play ME2 on PS3 but now I want to play it for 360 just to compare the elevator loading times to the worst claimed GT5 loading times.

Sound be interesting I think ;)

    #137 4 years ago
  138. Psychotext

    Yeah, it’s fully installed.

I can point to any number of videos that show that the load times are well in excess of 10 seconds for anything which isn’t a rally track. Happy to provide my own videos if no-one believes me. :P

Funnily enough, I just timed (for an unrelated post) how long it was taking to get from the home screen to the Laguna Seca b-spec truck event and that was 50 seconds, with 34 seconds of that 50 belonging to the track loading section.

Edit – Just did the same for Datona. 59 seconds from home screen with 37 of that being for the track.

GT5 does not take that long for me to load at all. You must have gotten a broken copy along with a couple of others. I turn my head to the left for about 3-4 sec and back to the screen and the course has already loaded. I’m using it on my PS3 slim rather than the older models so maybe that has something to do with it.

    #140 4 years ago
  141. Psychotext

I wouldn’t be surprised if you’d put an SSD in your PS3.

Like I said, I can point you to any number of videos showing how long loading takes (I bet you can’t show me a single proper track with a 3 second load time). You might think it takes 3 seconds but I can assure you it’s far, far longer. Time a few tracks. I’m doing a bunch of bspec races at the mo and I’ll time each track load whilst I wait.

    Broken copy lol.

No im using a regular 2.5 HDD Western digital 500GB. And I can assure you my copy of GT5 is not taking over 10 sec to load a track. I’ll even get a HD recorder and post a vid on my youtube channel.

All this time being on PSN I thought you were playing and enjoying GT5 but I see you were busy stuck in loading screens instead.

  143. Psychotext

I’m loving the game, but it’s got some significant flaws. One of which being the loading times. I can assure you that reviewers wouldn’t have mentioned the loading times being an issue had they been just 10 seconds.

Also, when you say “regular”, is that a 7200 or 5400 rpm drive?

    #143 4 years ago
  144. theevilaires

5400 rpm and i’m aware of the loading times being long in some cases but there is a lot of exaggeration going on how long they are. Especially since I haven’t spoken to anyone who has played the game to say it bothers them to the point of frustration and just playing another game.

I honestly am not affected by the loading times cause they seem average to me added with maybe 2 or 3 more secs. That stuff won’t bother me ever. Maybe because I’m a multi tasker and im either texting someone on my mobile or taking a bite out of an apple 9 out of 10 when I shift my focus back to the tv GT5 (car and track) is loaded and ready to go.

I agree it does has flaws but what game (besides UC2) doesn’t this gen.

Well, the only problem i have with GT5 is the fact that they still dont have motor swaps. Wtf man, this game is so complete its ridiculous but still no motor swaps. I wanna drop an H22 in my Integra for fucks sake.

    #145 4 years ago
  146. spiderLAW

to put my 2 cents in on the Foza3 graphics vs GT5…since i have played both recently here it goes.
I prefer the texturing and lighiting affects on the cars of Forza3. Just because ALL the cars in Forza3 got the same amount of attention.
BUT everything else on GT5 is WAY better. Environment, effects, lighting, etc etc etc. But You can tell that the only Cars they really focused on are the more popular ones and of course the Team built/sponsored vehicles like SPOON. I just wish that with all the time they had building the game, they would have focused some more attention on all the models and not just the popular ones.

Can’t put a time frame on perfection and Kaz had a deadline he had to meet. I just honestly hope they are preparing GT6 prologue and GT6 for PS4 as of right now. Go on a 3 month vacation and get your asses back to work on GT6. I want to see GT6 for PS4 1st holiday season with GT6 prologue as a launch title.

    #147 4 years ago
  148. Psychotext

I’d like to see GT6 on PS4. I can only imagine what PD can do with it. It’ll be fuckawesome!

Does this tea dude work for sony or something?? Dude, I hope you get paid for all the promoting you’re doing. I’ve never seen someone love a console so much.

  150. spiderLAW

Nah, he just really loves videogames. For reals yo. He’s especially a sucker for the games that are of the highest quality. It just so happens that the PS3 has most of those games right now with their exclusives line up that continues to grow.

it’s nuts to say that tea is unbiased.

So is GT nearer to forza or PGR4?
I played PGR4 for a bit and quite enjoyed it.
Not a big racer fan for the most part but I am a bit intrigued with GT5.

    #152 4 years ago
  153. spiderLAW

GT5 is nearer to Forza but even harder. Its a very difficult sim. But its also a complete package. If you liked PGR4 im positive you will Like the Kart racing in GT5

  154. spiderLAW

He comes off as extremely biased here……i wont go into further details lol. Enjoy the bait, i here it tastes fishy.

Trust me Guapo if I was employee by SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT I would never call it work. Gaming is a hobby I love very much because its my favorite medium. I hate TV, can’t stand MOVIES (Last Airbender what a shame :( ), and the music sucks these days.

But honestly how am I promoting SONY? I just rather see PD focus on next gen GT seeing as they have maxed their potential with GT5 on PS3 and not waste time trying to cash in on another GT this gen. It makes since to produce only two GTs during a gen, a prologue and a complete edition.

Prologue gives us a nice taste of what the new hardware is capable of and the complete edition gives us the maxed experience we all crave from Kaz’s perfectionist nature. Thats not promoting Guapo thats smart thinking. It helps SONY fund Kaz’s complete edition and makes gamers happy while they wait for GT6.

So like I mentioned before. GT6 prologue for PS4′s first holiday season and GT6 3-4 years later during the middle of PS4′s life cycle to stretch for that 10 year life goal SONY is famous for. Its genius when you really think about it. I don’t want to be playing GT18 on PS6 :D

    #155 4 years ago
  156. DaMan

@spider – I meant in general. and ‘it so happens’ with exclusives? say, I wonder if they even played Forza.

Hey Reask whats up man. I’m glad to see you back posting again and you bring up a good question about PGR4. I know its off topic but I just bought the chat pad-headset-PGR4-1year LIVE sub card bundle. I got it for $70 which basically made having another year of LIVE FREE :D I was wondering can I still use that code for LIVE, will M$ still honor those cards that came in those packages? Sorry for going off topic. Lets play some PGR4 together some time Reask.

Edit: heres a pic of the package

Back on topic: BUY GT5 Reask. I’ll gift you a really fast car so you can own the CPU :D ….P.S. Thanks Cort for gifting me that car.

@152 Fuck, I loved PGR4. And 3 for that matter. IMO, Xbox’s best racer. So much fun. I guess because its contrasts with GT so much, and GT was the only proper racing ‘sim’ I really needed, Forza didn’t get a look in with me. Just didn’t like it. But PGR and GT are top games. Best of both worlds.

    #158 4 years ago
  159. DSB

PGR was supreme until Grid came along in my opinion. A simulator is always going to be restricted by reality, in Grid and PGR, they seem to have put the effort into making it fun and exciting as well.

Not to say that simulators aren’t great in their own right, they’re just very rigid as games.

    #159 4 years ago
  160. reask

Not a big racer gamer but I will most likely pick GT5 up TEA.
I only rented PGR4 at the time but I might pick up a second hand copy as I imagine it to be pretty cheap now.
    Good deal that BTW.
