“Day one buyers of the Remedy thriller can get it for free with a code they got with the game.”
Actually you have to wait for a code via email the one they gave you was behind the scenes video.

i dont mind DLC if its done well and I certainly dont mind paying if thats the case. Most of the DLC i’ve ever bought has hardly broke me in the finance stakes.

@2 Not 100% true. Thats only for some reason you just couldnt wait till the DLC was released to use the code, why couldnt people wait when it was made clear it was for game add on content starting in July. I’ve just downloaded mine with no e-mail or anything, just used the voucher because I waited till it was launched.

Well the voucher doesn’t say anything about July so I went and downloaded it. Then I did some research and found out you have to wait for MS to email a code to get the first DLC for free and the voucher just gave me a video for behind the scenes.

@6 should of done the research first, i’ve tore the voucher up after using it but I’m sure something was written on there that prevented me from just using it as soon as i got it plus it was on most game websites that week of launch you would get a voucher to use for DLC that will be released later in the year, so why go to download something thats not available yet?

Because I shouldn’t have to research for a game I just bought and has a voucher that says free DLC on it nothing about “DO not USE til July”
I honestly don’t care though Alan Wake was an absolutely horrible game. Surprised I haven’t sold it yet.

@Phoenixblight
Pretty sure one of the loading screens or the dlc tab on the menu said to save the code till the dlc was released

It says on the “Game add-on card” that we are supposed to “connect to Xbox LIVE this summer to continue the Alan Wake story”.
I don’t recall Alan Wake being released in summer …

I’ve played a bit and really enjoyed it so far, but it’s pretty hard imo.

I bought it in the summer, and redeemed the card immediately (as I do with all games I buy).

I wonder if it will explain where all those coffee thermos came from. Seriously 100 of them, if you drank that much coffee you would probably be dead.

suicide by coffee is very unpleasant, there’re better options.
it’s a great way to ruin the kidneys and heart though.

Just finished the dlc and seriously it reminded me how shit this game is, the fundamental thing thats wrong with it is the fact it wants to be something else then a tps but cant back it up elsewhere, the shooting mechanic is just plain shit. The controls just Grr words cant describe.

@23 i personally enjoyed the game and the dlc, i think of a few games this generation with much worse controls. each to their own

Odd. I love the shooting mechanics. You really have to think about what you’re doing (especially on harder difficulties) or you’re going to get overwhelmed.

It shows the limits of the torch and shooting mechanic in the parts where it throws multiple enemies at you, its like aim at one the other guy comes up behind you, you try to run and they catch you cause he can only sprint for like 5 secs at the most.
If they ever get to make a sequel they need to decide what game they want to make a survival horror or a shooter cause i found it didnt know what it was at times. To each is own i suppose though.

You don’t just aim at one, you switch between enemies, stun them, back off, stun another, move around, take a couple of shots at one, switch enemies… and so on. It’s all about managing priorities and keeping the enemies within a good arc so you can switch the torch between them at the right moments.

And then get knocked over by a car and hit buy some floating piece of scenery and then the humans come in to finish you off, All of that happened in that order for me

There’s only one place that can happen, and you’re supposed to be in a car at the time.
(Unless you’re talking about the DLC, which I haven’t played yet as those muppets haven’t sent me a code yet)

You can drive a car as well at that part but there is an achievement if you dont.

To be honest I don’t think it’s right to complain about a limitation you’ve imposed upon yourself. You’re supposed to use the car for that section, that’s why there’s an Achievement for not doing so.
Personally I think the game controls beautifully on the controller, although The Signal did highlight two annoyances I have with the mechanics: 1) the aiming snapping to enemies can foil many an opportune shot at a gas canister, and 2) I wish you could push through enemies to some extent — perhaps at the cost of some sprint endurance — as I got boxed up against scenery a few times and wasn’t even able to pop a flare due to the slight delay on doing so.
Anyway, the DLC is a really good slice of content. It’s about the length of one of the game’s Episodes and mixes things up a lot within that time, plus the more surreal nature of it grants Remedy a few more liberties that helps keep things interesting. I’m pretty much sold on the second piece of content already, although it wouldn’t hurt to tone down the collectibles as they tend to upset the flow of the game.

on remedy forums they are hinting the second DLC “The Writer” will be much longer.

They swarm you at multiple different occassions and the process of getting there shields away then shooting plus add you only get 5 bullets then its reload, i found by the time id finished reloading i was dead.
Most of the time i was running away and dropping flares to do the game another stupid design choice was the limits of the dodge move, you can use it 2 or 3 times then they catch you grr imo.
I just question if the game was survival horror how come they put so much emphasis on the shooting, if its a shooter why does it not control like any other Tps, Uncharted coming to mind.

Rather than drop flares and run, try holding on to them and herding enemies into a better position. They’re an offensive tool as much as a defensive one.
Alan Wake‘s combat has more in common with RE4 than Gears: crowd control is your primary goal, picking off the weaker enemies first and repositioning when it looks like you might get overrun.

Thats what got me through the game
, walking with the flare to the big light on in the middle of the forest.
