Valve: No cake meme jokes in Portal 2
Yum. Cake. Is there any left for Portal 2? Yes? Brilliant! You were lying? Sad face.
Co-writer on the game Erik Wolpaw has told Gama that, while it does have many elements of the original like GlaDOS, Aperture and the cubes, he has no intention of reviving any internet memes from 2007 with P2.
“If thought you were sick of the memes, I was sick of it way ahead of you, said Wolpaw.
“For instance, cake? I’ve had enough cake jokes.
“The cubes are in there because they’re a gameplay element, and obviously, GLaDOS is back, but there’s a bunch of new gameplay and we want to tell an interesting new story.”

Portal 2 releases next year for PC, 360 and PS3, the latter of which was announced this week by Gabe Newell during Sony’s press conference.

Good, it was a fantastic meme, but it’s so over-used now it would have been madness to recycle it for this game. Here’s hoping the surprise reward will be Jammy Dodgers.

Why re-use the joke? This is Valve – they will probably just come up with something just as awesome and memorable in the sequel.
