Video – Gabe Newell announces Portal 2 for PS3

gabeps3

Best Megaton of E3? We have our winner. In case you didn’t see it, hit the break to watch Aperture Science’s GlaDOS and Valve’s Gabe Newell announcing Portal 2 for PS3.

Not to mention, you also get the trailer shown at the Sony press conference.

Two birds, one stone.

The game releases day and date with the 360 and PC versions next year, and will be the only console version to have Steamworks. Amazing.

I love how unhappy he looks in that picture. Like Sony just made him eat a shit sandwich or something. :-D

Bravo, Sony. Bravo. *golf clap*

That was performed perfectly well and executed down to a T.

@6

Thought that throughout the whole speech.

He looked like he was speaking through gritted teeth ‘Come on Gabe… think of the money’.

Earpiece: “Say it, Newell! We still have the pictures!”

‘We’ll release the stolen Episode 3 code to you if you do this… Then you’ll stop being hassled by gamers’.

Biggest E3 coup since the FF13 shoulder tap.

So he goes from saying PS3 sucks to saying the PS3 version of Portal 2 will be THE BEST VERSION of the game available?

Wow…..that’s………..quite a spread….lol.

Is this the reason for the delay then?

They have fallen back into my good graces….My Valve issues are now forgotten. Half life 3 here I come!

@TEA My sentiments exactly! Maybe Left 4 Dead 3 will make its way to PS3 and we won’t get a gimped Half Life 3.

Its just sad that everyone laughed at Ken Kuturagi. Then man knew what he was doing and Gabe was being a jack ass man. The PS3 is the platform this gen needs to stay focused first on for now on until next gen.

The 360 has hit the wall with its potential and cheap apps like ESPN don’t add shit to the console….at least not for me. Valve made a good choice dropping their stupid pride.

The best version available on any console, you know the PC version is gonna have the best support. ie free shit.

At the end of the day, it’s very easy to ignore a platform when it’s not doing so well. It’s a lot harder to ignore it when there are 35 million of them in peoples’ homes.

No one else finds it slightly odd that E3′s biggest ‘Megaton’ is the announcement that a sequel of a game that was already on the PS3 is coming out… on the PS3?

Seriously, no one?

“Valve made a good choice dropping their stupid pride.”

Sorry, but Valve haven’t dropped anything – they’ve got a first party hardware developer to allow their own distribution software to be integrated into the console. THAT’S the real Megaton here.

Sony are the one’s that had to give ground, not Valve.

“No one else finds it slightly odd that E3’s biggest ‘Megaton’ is the announcement that a sequel of a game that was already on the PS3 is coming out… on the PS3?”

Honnestly, the 3DS (slightly dampened by lack of anything really being shown, i must say) and Twisted Metal are bigger ‘Megatons’ imo. And only because Infamous 2, Killzone 3 and LBP2 were already out of the bag.

“Sorry, but Valve haven’t dropped anything – they’ve got a first party hardware developer to allow their own distribution software to be integrated into the console. THAT’S the real Megaton here.”

Indeed, i can imagine Sony approached Valve and said “Listen, we want your games. How can we make this work?”. Though its only Steam features for this one game so i wouldnt say its that big of a deal. The idea of having full Steam on PS3 would be quite awesome, but counter productive for Sony.

On a sidenote, how do you do italic in these comments?

Like in HTML, Geki – i in angle-brackets (or chevrons, if you prefer).

Did Gabe actually say whether Valve themselves were doing the development, by the way? i.e. do they now have a PS3 development team internally, or are they farming the development out to a third party again?

@Geki

Twisted Metal? Honestly?

I thought the whole world knew that was coming. I’m also baffled by how important people seem to think it is. It’s not exactly a critically acclaimed series, is it. It just happens to be from the guy who also did God of War.

Or is that not right?

no not exactly.
its more like: GoW is from the guy who also did Twisted Metal.
honestly, for “veteran-consolers (/homecomputer user)” this is megaton.
