Split/Second sets new PS3 hard drive install record at 7Gb [Update]

Update: If PlayFront’s to be believed, the install’s 3.8Gb. We’ll have to check this with Disney tomorrow.
Original: Just as we report how Rockstar has managed a teeny PS3 HDD requirement for Red Dead Redemption, along comes Split/Second and breaks the record at the other end of the scale.
The install space needed for the PS3 version of Disney’s racer is a whopping 7Gb, almost doubling MGS4′s last record at 4.7Gb.
There’s no word yet on how long it takes to install the game.
Split/Second is set to release this week on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Good example of lazy or incompetent developers right there. Red Dead Redemption = 600mb open world game…. Split second = 7gig driving game….

This is not correct! A German website says there are only 3.7 GB … see Picture

i personally wish that all games on ps3 could be installed completely like x360 and play from hdd,the games would run far smoother and it would save the bluray laser and keep it cooler,cant understand why its not an option,it was one of the best things the 360 added imo.

haha,
is it so hard to develop on the ps3?
its very sad that installation brings nothing by ps3.
if i install on x360 games, then the games are running very fast,
but ps3 if i install or not, its the same speed

@3 Even if it did have the option would you really want to be able to install a game that is on a blu-ray? That install would be like 20-40gig per game.

@Ninjanutta
Uncompressed audio adds a hefty size to the disk as well.
Maybe a game has few cinematic but it wills till have voiceovers, compositions and sound effects that will bump what’s stored on the disk.

There will never be a 7GB install on the PS3, that’s just way too big.
@14
Just another reason PC gaming has been dying of the past few years and will continue to do so.
