Sony trademarks PlayStation Move in Europe

psmove

Sony’s registered “PlayStation Move” in Europe, while sources tell us that “Arc” has been fully ditched as a potential name for PS3′s Motion Controller.

The filing for the name, found by The Netwerk (via Joystiq), was made in Europe on March 9, 2010. That’s yesterday, kids.

Also made in the same filing is a possible logo, which looks a bit like an A.

We were told dy a developer source today that Arc was “the name” for the PS3 Motion Controller but has since been dumped thanks to trademark issues.

Hopefully we’ll find out later tonight at Sony’s GDC press conference, due to kick off five hours from now.

Steph’s going to be there for us: find details here.

I liked Arc. I also like Revolution and Dolphin. I’m a codename junkie!

Not move, please not move. Maybe as a game like Wii Play, that could be called PS Move, but please not the device

I blame you guys!

You exposed ARC and pissed Sony off!

Now they punish us with this God awful generic name!

Bah, Arc was a cool name. Move makes it sound like a Wiimote kind of thing. Which it probably is, I doubt it will be much good.

I dunno.
If it was a Patent issue with Arc, why not just call it ‘PlayStation Arc’?

There’s Microsoft Office, and there’s Open Office, so I don’t see the issue.
