According to a rumour from Gamekult (via D’Toid), Nintendo has already sent out development kits for the successor to DS.

Our French is bad, but we think that was all that was mentioned.

It’s another piece of wood to a fire which has been burning bright since the start of February.

It was thought that a new piece of hardware from the company would be in the making, with a reveal at GDC in three weeks time.

Last week, however, Shigeru Miyamoto did confirm there was new hardware on the way from the Big N.

Analyst Michael Pachter reckons it’ll be the Wii HD, while Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has made big noises about a DS with motion controls.

Since then, he’s retracted the comments he made about the new handheld in a Japanese newspaper.

Come on GDC. Seriously, hurry up.

I bet they don’t call it the ‘DS 2′. It’ll be something snappy and off-the-wall, like Wii.

    It’s portable, so maybe… Pii! :-)

There’s that press event before GDC, don’t forget. Might well be shown then.
