Iwata denies making DS successor comments in Asahi Shimbun

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has flatly denied saying the successor to DS will have “highly detailed graphics" and a motion sensor in an Asahi Shimbun interview, despite the paper issuing a statement saying it didn't misquote the exec.

Speaking in an investor Q&A session, Iwata has claimed that, according to this Andriasang translation, "the reporter conducting the interview asked, 'The next DS will need to have high resolution graphics and include a motion sensor, wouldn't you say?' Iwata's response was, 'Those are naturally considered requirements. However, do you believe it will sell with just this?'

"The paper apparently skipped out on printing the last part of Iwata's statement, something that Iwata feels changed the meaning a bit."

The paper quoted Iwata as saying that DS’s successor will have “highly detailed graphics, and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing.”

Nintendo of America immediately fired back, saying the paper had “misinterpreted” Iwata, to which the Asahi Shimbun issued a statement to Kotaku directly to the contrary.

This is all going to end in tears. Not much doubt about that.
