Square “not planning” FFXIII DLC, says Kitase and Toriyama

ffxiii33

Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Motomu Toriyama may have finally spoken out on whether or not DLC is on the way for the RPG.

Spoiler: it’s not.

“Regarding the DLC content, we feel that the final product is 100% enjoyable… it’s the complete package. So we’re not planning any DLC at this time,” said one of the pair; it’s not made clear who said what in the interview.

They also said the cut content from the game that was mentioned a while back was taken of context. Goddamn that context.

“In regard to the rumored cut content, we feel it was taken out of context. There are a lot of ideas that are brought to the table, and then the team takes the best ideas out of those, and the final product is polished that way.

“There was content that were ‘ideas’ that didn’t make the final content, but the team isn’t looking to release that as downloadable content.”

The long-running DLC saga has been active since November, when Kitase said there would be no DLC at the Japanese launch in December.

What followed was a would-they/won’t-they release DLC situation that near enough turned into a will-they/won’t-they Rachel-Ross affair.

But there’s your answer. Or is it?

FFXIII’s out on March 9 for PS3 and 360.

I’ll give them 6 months, and then take them seriously.

Not when they can either slap it in a “Director’s Cut” in a year’s time or expand it into an FF XII-2.

It’ll never happen as far as I can see. The game is expensive to make (well, the way they made it anyway) and probably isn’t even built to support DLC at the code level, not to mention the covering costs of voice acting etc.

if mass effect can do it, final fantasy 13 can.

not to mention the DLC for this game that would sell would mostly be insanely hard bosses that drop good loot.

@Jade

Not so Jade. Bioware planned for Mass Effect 2 to have DLC so they made the game to allow it. NOt the case here with FFXIII.

Plus, you know, Bioware have been making games with DLC support for years, Square haven’t really made a current gen game that’s worth it’s salt till FF13 and that took them far, far too long.

Then again like the producers said (and Kojima after MGS4 came out) that Japan really need to sit back and figure out how to produce games more efficiently. I’d wager Capcom or a western developer could have made FF13 damn near as it is now for probably a third of the cost.
