Sony has released another fun PS3 commercial, this time it’s advertising MAG, which is set to launch next Tuesday.

The 256 online shooter has been in Beta for a while, so hopefully there won’t be any hiccups when it’s released.

Enjoy the video below the break.

They’re going to need to hammer the advert if they want to sell many copies of this game.

no interest at all in this game. I can’t find anything to like about it. Well, I do have a small interest in just seeing how man people play this after 30 days.

    @MS

    Do you have a PS3?

    What do you think.

No, no, let’s not jump to conclusions, even though his abbreviation is MS…

  6. onlineatron

It’s not that i’m defending MAG.. I don’t like it from the Beta and am not buying it over ME2.

But I’ve never seen him say anything about having PS3 so whilst him having no interest in the game maybe technically true I question his right to make the statement.

    #6 5 years ago
  7. MushroomStamp

Heh, yes I have a PS3. I have all the systems. Maybe if there was a drought of games I would give it a whirl… but as it stands there are quite a few games in the next 45 days that I really want to try out, so MAG will probably get forgotten about by me by the time I’m done with the ones I want to play

    #7 5 years ago
  8. onlineatron

    Same here.

  9. KAP

Im a massive PS3 user but yet i have no real interest in MAG either.

    I’d like to, but….nah

I’ll stick with my MW2 thanx

  10. reask

Deadly ad but I am having enough problems with 8 players in mw2 so no thanks :).
    And yes I do have a PS3. ;)

  11. The Hindle

You got your head round MW 2 yet Reask dude? For me i had to find a weapon and perk that fit

    #11 5 years ago
  12. The Hindle

And that ad is brilliant lol. MAG will sell good especially with the Socom crowd

    #12 5 years ago
  13. AHA-Lambda

Yeah I REALLY can’t see this selling well. I too am a BIG PS3 guy but I also don’t care for this game :|

    #13 5 years ago
  14. The Hindle

Its a fps with 256 player online it will sell i think lol. Maybe round the 2m mark total sales.

    #14 5 years ago
  15. AHA-Lambda

2 million? Really not a chance IMO

Infamous hasn’t even done that yet and killzone 2 only recently achieved 2 mil

    #15 5 years ago
  16. The Hindle

Total sales man, its one of Sonys main games this year of course it will sell.

    #16 5 years ago
  17. Mad-elph

On the features promised alone I am sold on this game. I would much rather work with a team then lone-wolfing it all the time as I do in MW2. Even when you organize things verbally in MW2 people don’t follow it, they just run off and die.

While I cannot say it will be a huge seller I suspect this will turn 1/2 million in the first week. But I cannot buy it atm as I am broke and unemployed. Plus I have 4 other games that I haven’t started yet that I want to before long.

    #17 5 years ago
  18. AHA-Lambda

Yeah but if it is any indication look at how many people here said they aren’t interested in it.

If this game flops at launch then there will be no community to back it up and therefore no long term sales

Plus not to sound like a broken record but its being released in the busiest Q1 EVER! with other ps3 exclusives next to it aswell (gow3 and heavy rain)

    #18 5 years ago
  19. Mad-elph

Infamous was pretty poor. I mean it had an okay idea, but the constant “I could save this guy or…” and the regular bad enviro glitches, i had to reload quite a bit after getting stuck in the environment. Plus it became repetitive.

    #19 5 years ago
  20. AHA-Lambda

yeah I didn’t think infamous was that great either but it had way more buzz than mag has had

    #20 5 years ago
  21. The Hindle

Exactly Kz 2 did 2m and that didnt have the reputation that Zipper has with thier games. Sonys marketing alone wont make it a flop plus Sony recently said MAG is one of thier big games. It wont do big numbers but it wont flop either

    #21 5 years ago
  22. AHA-Lambda

“Kz 2 did 2m and that didnt have the reputation that Zipper has with thier games”

KZ2 was always considered by fanboys as the ps3′s “saviour” how on earth does mag trump that reputation?

    #22 5 years ago
  23. The Hindle

Saviour its never needed saving lol, gamers these days love fps and MAG how anyone can think it will flop i dont know

    #23 5 years ago
  24. AHA-Lambda

I never thought it needed saving either but not my words :P

we’ll wait and see how mag sells come npd time

    #24 5 years ago
  25. The Hindle

Lol i know, used to hear it all the time especially in 2006.

    #25 5 years ago
  26. Yoshi

I like it but after playin MW2 i remember how much fps’s kinda suck on consoles lol
So if this was on pc, yep sold, but its not… so ill be stickin with my battlefield :)

    #26 5 years ago
  27. reask

    @ hindle
Yeah I am starting to get my head around the better weapons that go with the different perks.
I actually went on last night half pissed and won a free for all and then came second in the next one,
I was full of dutch courage :).

so maybe that’s my special perk. :D

    #27 5 years ago
  28. The Hindle

    Lol :)

  29. OlderGamer

Played Mag, and liked Mag. I won’t be buying, I will be saving my FPS game purchase for BFBC2. I mean really how many fps games do you need? Pick the best one and roll with it. Or lest the one that fits you best.

    #29 5 years ago
  30. cachucha

its gonna sell because some ps3 pack bundle with this game is going to be involved :P

    #30 5 years ago
  31. Psychotext

“Exactly Kz 2 did 2m and that didnt have the reputation that Zipper has with thier games”

If Zipper had a reputation, it’s in tatters after SOCOM Confrontation. As for sales, SOCOM just possibly might have done a million… and this might just possibly do a million. But it’s unlikely.

    #31 5 years ago
  32. Gekidami

“If Zipper had a reputation, it’s in tatters after SOCOM Confrontation.”

That would be a mighty shame seeing as Zipper didnt have anything to do with Confrontation.

    #32 5 years ago
  33. Psychotext

Ha… right you are. My apologies for associating you with that abortion of a game Zipper. I wonder how many others automatically associate the latest SOCOM with them.

    #33 5 years ago
  34. The Hindle

Zipper had nothing to do with Socom confrontation dude and the Socom fanbase will know this and the first Socom game for the Ps2 has of 2003 sold 2m copies so Mag should do the same.

    #34 5 years ago
  35. SplatteredHouse

After the beta, I’d get MAG if it were a twenty pound note worth of a PSN download. Only offering it at retail, I think may cause them problems. It would be far better off being pitched as more of an impulse purchase, from the Playstation store. The game’s quality isn’t the reason, more that I think it could simply attract more interest sold that way.

    #35 5 years ago
  36. Psychotext

@TH: Yes, Gekidami had already said that.

Unless they go on a marketing blitz this wont break 250k first month in the US, and it’ll be a non event in Europe (with the exception of possibly the UK). Obviously it’ll be a non event in Japan.

It’ll have a hardcore niche following because of the Betas, but the Betas will have put off as many people as they attracted.

    #36 5 years ago
  37. The Hindle

They are marketing it though PT Sony see it as a system seller as for none event in Europe they recently held a an event in London why would they do that if it would flop. It wont do Halo numbers but to say it will flop.

    #37 5 years ago
  38. Psychotext

Sony saw LBP, KZ2 and Uncharted 2 as system sellers… they still didn’t market them for shit (there were a few Uncharted adverts… but they were mostly advertising the PS3 rather than the game).

Anyway. We’ll know as of the middle of next month… and early Feb for how it’s doing in the UK / Europe.

    #38 5 years ago
  39. The Hindle

Regardless even if the game sells 2m fanboys will still see it as a flop, its the way people are these days. I mean are you expecting ME to sell over 3m copies becasue the first one didnt yet that wouldnt get called a flop lol

    #39 5 years ago
  40. Psychotext

If it sells 2m it’ll have done fine. I find it highly, highly unlikely though.

    #40 5 years ago
  41. Talyis

@Psychotext Dude do you ever anything good to say about anything Sony, seriously your the biggest 360 fanboy on this site! You should stay off the Sony news pages if all your gonna do is bash.

    #41 5 years ago
  42. onlineatron

Woah… Talyis… Calm down, don’t start on the vets, especially with idiotic unjustifiable statements like that.

    #42 5 years ago
  43. Psychotext

Realism makes me a 360 fanboy onlineatron.

@Talysis: I couldn’t give a shit about any of the systems. Analysis of numbers and business interests me. If you find the opinions offensive… don’t read them. Or perhaps I could talk about how it’s likely that the PS3 will outsell the 360 by around 2 million worldwide over the course of the next 9 months.

Would that make you feel better?

You want me to talk about excellent PS3 games? I’ll happily talk about LBP, Flower, Valkyria Chronicles or Demon’s Souls. If you want me to talk about PS3 games I think will be significant commercial successes then I’ll happily talk about GoW 3 or GT5.

Of course, none of that is relevant here, but it seems that if I’m going to post “negative” things about the potential sales of a PS3 exclusive then I’m going to have to balance it out. I mean god forbid, I might offend someone otherwise.

    #43 5 years ago
  44. zoopdeloop

Psycho do you think of yourself as a 360 fanboy?

    #44 5 years ago
  45. Psychotext

I don’t think of myself of a fanboy of any machine. Any and all the companies could go bust tomorrow and I wouldn’t care as long as I still had games to play. I’d care about talking about how they went bust… though apparently I wouldn’t be allowed to just in case I came across as overly negative.

As I’ve explained in a previous discussion with TEA… this console wars crap just doesn’t exist in my world. I’ll never understand why people feel the need to fly the flag for multi-billion dollar corporations who couldn’t give a shit about them. So with that said, I’ll continue to buy and play every console in every generation, and be thankful that I’ve got the ability to do so. I’ll also continue to post positive and negative opinions about all of them… without feeling like I have to adhere to some sort of fanboy assuaging code of conduct.

(Disclaimer: I don’t own a PSP. That probably makes me a DS fanboy or something. :) Also, the only game I’ve played in the last month is Demon’s Souls, which I guess makes me a PS3 fanboy. Next month I’m likely to be playing a bunch of Mass Effect 2… so I think I’ll be a 360 fanboy then.)

Yeah but… PSTrey sux and teh 360 is roxor innit.

Pretty much the way i see things…although i have reasons i am not fond of one company( i wasn’t even before they joined the console gaming industry) out of the three

    #48 5 years ago
  49. bugmenot

my sentiments exactly, in a industry like videogames which is one of the few industries i can think of that traditionally only allows 2 profit-making brands at a time and that’s worldwide! I have a deep sense of forboding that a new empire is in the making. The fact that this gen is all about controlling the living-room space and turning it into an live entertainment marketplace means this is all the more relevent. I dont want another Windows situation where 99% of the known world is tied to one brand because of the sheer impracticality of learning to use an alternative. MS are just way too big for comfort. I have nothing against the horse just who’s sitting in it.

  50. Robo_1

I’ve always thought it unfair that Psycho gets stamped as a 360 fanboy by some of the lurkers/occasional posters here. Psycho likes his figures, and since PS3′s launch those figures haven’t been kind to Sony and only those taking paycheques from Sony should have any interest in spinning them to their advantage.

Of course it’s getting a lot better. :)

As to MAG, it’s not a game which I’ll be getting either, but that’s solely down to the fact that I’m not a big fan of online shooters. There is a buzz about it from people who have downloaded the beta. I don’t expect massive sales in the first months, but if word of mouth is good and it generates the appropriate buzz, it could well have very long and stable legs.

Robo_1 said: “I’ve always thought it unfair that Psycho gets stamped as a 360 fanboy by some of the lurkers/occasional posters here.”

It’s simple over-sensitivity from some people; if someone isn’t outright defending their chosen format then, obviously, they must be attacking and therefore a fanboy.

    Us v Them.

The fact that most of us on these sites are ‘hardcore’ gamers and so by definition quite a few of us have most (if not all) platforms so we have any game which interests us just doesn’t seem to penetrate the heads of some commentors.

    PICK A SIDE (or don’t).

  52. onlineatron

It’s kinda a shame to see the few ignorant posters.

I’ve been on a lot of sites (GT, Destructoid, Joystiq etc..) and a lot of the conversation there (especially on GT) ends up in misinformed fanboy rants and I will often get branded as such by defending a platform from posters talking rubbish.

Here, on VG247, I feel the the community is a lot more mature as a whole and I can speak my mind without being branded a moron, fanboy, retard etc.

    It’s nice =D

  54. The Hindle

Woah i go away and this is what i miss yep PT couldnt of said it better fanboyism is just stupid, both consoles have amazing games that have to be played. The only losers are the fanboys and ost of the time the reasons they state for not buying a console are just plain stupid

    #54 5 years ago
  55. Talyis

Jeez I post a simple little comment and get ten paragraphs back in response! I call it as I see it and it’s not like Psychotext posted only one comment putting Sony in the bad light, honestly I don’t remember even seeing one positive comment towards Sony from him. And who cares if Psychotext is a vet on this site it’s not like I haven’t been on this site for quite awhile now I just don’t post comments constantly.
@The Hindle so is it stupid when you do buy a console and it’s break a few times then you decide just to get rid of it and not spend your money on the same console twice or is it smart to support that company that just caused you to lose a couple hundred dollars! BTW all you analysts out there that say the 360 is beating the PS3 in sales in my the biggest reason for Microsoft having that sale number is the fact that quite a few 360 owners purchased more than one system. I’m betting the PS3 does have a bigger user base than the 360!

    #55 5 years ago
  56. Psychotext

It’s not like I’ve posted only one comment putting Microsoft or Nintendo in a bad light either.

But you don’t notice them, do you Mr Fanboy. That’s because when I say bad things about them it fits with your opinion and it doesn’t send you reaching for your rape alarm.
