Half-Life 2 Black Mesa mod will not be released in 2009

Tuesday, 8th December 2009 14:48 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

The Black Mesa mod for Half-Life 2 will not make it’s projected 2009 release, according to a post on the mod’s official forums.

“Unfortunately, to our great disappointment, Black Mesa will not make a 2009 release,” wrote the mod’s project lead. “Cynics may now rejoice, bets may be collected, and I think a mod team member has to eat his shoe, but we hope our loyal fans will forgive us and realize that the delay will translate into a better final product that’s (hopefully) more easily available to everyone.

“Once again we apologize for what has to be very disappointing news. We placed a 2009 deadline on ourselves to motivate us and bring this 6 year project to a close. And while we didn’t quite make it, we have come very close, and you can expect a complete, polished game to hit your hard drives in the near future. We’ll be sure and update if anything changes.

“Until then, hang tight, it’s coming.”

A video was released around this time last year, and we have it posted here.

It’s been rumoured that Valve are stepping in finally. Though that is just forum talk and speculation as well as a little reading between the lines.

By stepping in I mean in a good way rather than in a get fucked way.

My guess is Orange Box 2 = EP3/CS2/Black Mesa

Possibly even throw in portal 2.

That would be great indeed, as long as it comes out sometime soon – and by soon I mean by Q3 2010 at the *very* latest…

Well, considering Valve have like 4 or 5 dev teams by now and the only games been worked on are L4D2 and TF2 I can imagine something big happening next year.

If we don’t see EP3 screenshots by February then I’ll be quite surprised.

I’d be happy with Episode 3 sometime in this new decade..

Like they did with CS when they took a free mod and decided to cut the ‘free’ part out?
