Portal’s most prominent “face,” Kim Swift, has left Valve for Dark Void developer Airtight Games.

Swift will hold the title of project lead at the studio, and will “build and lead a team in the development of games aimed at a more diverse audience.”

Airtight boss Jim Deal said her hiring “represents a strategic move by Airtight Games into new and broader gaming markets.”

Wow, first off, what does this mean for portal 2?

Second, how much money changed hands here?

We really need to see what the hell Valve is doing with Portal 2 and Episode Three.

They have been sucking on L4D for two years. :(

    @Johnny

Its on the back burners til L4D can stop being milked. Afterall its gotta be damn cheap to develope with their dated engine.

Mike – Not disputing that, but I really want to see what they are doing with Episode Three.

It’s getting ridiculous that we haven’t heard a peep on it (other then the fact it’s in development) in two years, yet the episodic arc of Half Life 2 was meant to be spaced out by six months, not by a year.

In fact, if they had followed the six month plan, we would have had Ep 3 by June 2007. Maybe its the fact I just went back and played The Orange Box for the first time in nearly a year, but it has reignited my antcipation again for Ep 3.

Needs to come sooner then later.

Did you possibly consider that she simply wanted a change of pace and scenery after working there for a number of years?

Not everything has to be a conspiracy theory.

Might be a bad choice on her part after Dark Void tanks and Capcom get creative with accounting causing major cash flow problems with Airtight and bankrupting them. See GRIN.

You don’t think she thought that for herself Hunam? She isn’t a robot and she has more experience than we do. SHe evaluated and found this company having a better chance than Valve.

now that is just silly phoenix. Valve will be the development team to turn out the lights when all is done and dusted.

Swift obviously sees more opportunities at Airtight than at Valve. That said, I would not be putting money on anything other than average to medicore sales for Dark Void. It looks like another Bionic Commando, to me. Hopefully I’ll be wrong.

    I meant that not chance.

Or She doesn’t agree with how Valve is doing things.

She may be getting more responsibility at Airtight – hence, why she’s moved. There could of been loads of things governing that decision, really.

Given how quickly Valve caught the annual sequel bug with L4D, I wouldn’t be surprised if Swift jumped ship because she didn’t want to spend the rest of her career making Portal sequels.

Seems a slightly odd move to shift from Valve to ‘the guys who are making Dark Void’. Which is sort of ‘shit’. Actually, that’s a bit unfair… it’s not ‘sort of’ shit at all. It’s just… shit.
