FFXIII – new gameplay videos

ffxiii31

A couple of new off-screen FFXIII gameplay movies after the break, one showing general character animation and the other showing combat. Neither have audio.

The Japanese version ships for PS3 in December. It’s looking pretty “swish,” to say the least.

Swish?

Just watching the videos its by far the best SE RPG I have seen this last year. I really can’t wait.

What I saw at GamesCom was the most technically impressive content I’ve seen this generation. Nothing else comes close, although I’ve been hearing a hell of a lot of superlatives in the last few days about Uncharted 2.

But yeah, this looks amazing.

Glad to hear. SE must be putting all their eggs in one basket for this FF. Where all the other RPGs they have made these past years were less then subpar atleast imo.

The only RPG SquareEnix have actually made this generation is Last Remnant, all the others were developed by other people and just published by SE. So… er… actually, I see your point. :-D

Twenty years watching friends play Final Fantasy and I still don’t get it. Will LSD help?

LSD helps with everything.

That would depend on where you’re tripping, wouldn’t it? :)

I still can’t believe they went back to that retarded turn based combat. thought I ‘ll never see any of this on current gen.

Sorry but FFXII was by far the worst combat ever. The Japanese agreed too thats why they went back to Turn Based.

Look at DQ in Japan sold 2.5 million in a few months, that turn-based. As the saying goes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

FFXII’s combat was awful – a lot of the time it felt like the game was playing itself. You could go off and make a cup of tea without pausing and it’d be fine.

nobody forced you to use gambits all the time. and I would hardly call choosing the same ‘attack’ menu option every random battle more fun than the gambits automatically doing it. FF12 certainly wasn’t the most fun Square rpg battles wise, but at least they tried to move forward.

I can understand turn based being plenty of fun in titles like Disgaea and the such. but it feels terribly outdated and simply boring in a game like this one.

Again 2.5 million DQ sold, Turn based, Sorry but not even SE is gonna attempt something risky with one of their franchise that makes them money.

“it feels terribly outdated and simply boring in a game like this one.”

Maybe to you but I still play Chrono Trigger, FF6 and up. I prefer it No need to keep mashing a single button. You should Try Digital Devil Saga or Nocturne, thats hardcore Turn based.

Without Gambits FFXII was nigh-on impossible. With them it wasn’t really any fun. They tried to straddle turn-based and real-time and ended up with a mess – I’d much rather they went the whole hog one way or the other. I don’t really mind which.

I’m guessing Versus is probably going to be the FFXIII for you then, DaMan.

Pat, I am no tech guy, but the only reason to be waxing lyrical about the tech in this game, is becuase you fancy the game itself.

Nothing is that impressive in it at all. Certainly not to say ‘this generation’.

Yeah thats KH style combat supposedly. That was combat I really liked. I think my problem I think FF I think Turn based but that is also because FF12 leaving a horrible taste in my mouth so much so its the only FF I had actually sold to Gamestop.

If they can go the route of combat style like KH and tie into FF, I wouldn’t be bothered by it at all. It would be weird fighting a an Omega weapon the size of Ursula. Weird in a good way!! I can’t wait for that day.

” Again 2.5 million DQ sold, Turn based, Sorry but not even SE is gonna attempt something risky with one of their franchise that makes them money. ”
Phoenixblight, yeah you already said that. I was simply stating my view on this game, just like you when you say “all their other games suck”.

you’re right, a game doesn’t have to be the most fun to be the most commercially successful. that’s why I choose other rpgs today.

“Maybe to you but I still play Chrono Trigger, FF6 and up. I prefer it No need to keep mashing a single button. You should Try Digital Devil Saga or Nocturne, thats hardcore Turn based.”
you grossly misunderstand me btw. CT is one of my favourite games, I had plenty of fun with turn based battles on SNES and PS1, I simply find real time battles vastly superior today, when we aren’t limited by technology.

Blerk, I’ve completed that game without using them a single time, the first time I played it.

I agree I did misinterpreted. Your comments just came off harsh. and I didn’t say all their other games sucked I said they were below subpar. I used to be a huge SE fan I would eat up all their games they released right until this generation, I learned my lesson.

“I simply find real time battles vastly superior today, when we aren’t limited by technology. ”

Then you may want to wait til Versus is out.

This looks amazing, still want V13 more though. Still the whole FF13 Project across the 3 games looks pretty amazing, can’t wait to get stuck into them all over the next year or so (who knows when V13/A13 will hit the west eh?)
