GTA IV is the best selling title in Europe and the US for 2008

Edge has compiled the top 60 best selling games of 2008 for Europe and the United States.

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV comes in first with 13 million sold. This is followed by NPD 08 winner, Mario Kart Wii on 11 million and all kinds of Guitar Hero games in 3rd, after selling 10 million units collectively.

  2. Mario Kart Wii -11 million
  3. Guitar Hero (various) – 10 million
  4. Wii Fit – 9 million
  5. Super Smash Bros. Brawl – 7 million

    It should be noted these are estimates, based on available data – not definite numbers.

    More than a few seem a little suspect vs various releases – didn’t I read that PoP had sold more in an UBI press release that noted in this list?

    As ever only those paying for complete industry sales data (which I’m not even sure exists) know the truth, the rest of us are left guessing based on partial sales data releases and PR press releases.

    How many other massive multi-platform games have been absolutely demolished by the wii games?

    Dead space is an incredible game, should be so much higher. There are many on the list that confuse me, how some of these games sold any copies is beyond me…
