According to this EG report, GTA IV sales have now hit 1.3 million in the UK, 57 percent of which were on Xbox 360.

Sales of Xbox 360 hardware are 18 percent ahead of the PS3 in the UK since the launch of the game, says the site.

The stats come from Chart-Track. More through the link.

    Interesting stat:

“Comparing sales of both consoles for the four weeks prior to GTA IV’s launch to the four weeks since its launch, hardware units have risen on 360 by 47 per cent, compared to just eight per cent on PS3.”

Microsoft must be pleased with that… given the PS3 / GTA IV bundle and the fact that GTA has always been associated with the PS brand first. No doubt the advertising cost them a bundle, but I guess that’s the price you pay if you want to increase your marketshare.

That £100+ price difference is probably doing them more good than the advertising.

It’s not doing them any good in mainland Europe though. I think the advertising is important as most of the crowd I know that planned to buy this game (and a console to go with it) didn’t even know that it was coming to the 360.

    Hell, a few 360 owners I know didn’t have a clue either.

Yeah, Microsoft may as well give up and go home outside of the UK. Next time out they should just save the money and make an ‘English only’ console. :-D

No doubt. I’ve never really understood why they struggled so much in mainland Europe. Especially as they treat us better (at least with regard to releases) than either Nintendo and Sony.

Your 360 owners must have been in hibernation for 5 years and only just woken up lol
