Zelda Link's Awakening Wind Fish's Egg Solution - How to Get Through the Wind Fish Egg

Here's how to get through the Wind Fish's Egg maze in Zelda Link's Awakening on the Switch.

The Wind Fish Egg is the very final section of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, and it can be pretty tricky to navigate. In this Zelda Link's Awakening Wind Fish Egg guide, we'll be walking you through everything that you need to do in order to make it through the Wind Fish's Egg as easily as possible.

Zelda Link's Awakening Wind Fish Egg Maze

When you arrive at the Wind Fish's Egg, the helpful owl will prompt Link to enter. But before you do this, you might want to backtrack a little bit, and follow the instructions that we've listed out below.

  • Collect the Magnifying Lens from the trading sequence.
  • Go to the library in Mabe Village.
  • Check the black book on the right where you enter.
  • Take a note or screenshot of the directions it states.
  • After you fall down the chasm in the Wind Fish Egg, go up one room, then follow the instructions.

Expanding on these instructions, what Link's Awakening doesn't tell you is that the directions to get through the maze within the Wind Fish's Egg are back in Mabe Village. Firstly, you need to make sure you've completed the trading sequence in the game, involving the stick, honey, pineapple, and a few other items. If you're yet to do this, head over to our Link's Awakening Trading Sequence guide.

With the Magnifying Lens in hand from completing the trading sequence, head to Mabe Village. There's an old stone building in the southwest of the village, where two boys are throwing a ball to each other. This is the library, and you're going to want to head in here.

When you enter the library, look to your right. There's an old black book on a table in the bottom right corner of the room. Read the book, and it'll tell Link a specific set of directions to take within the Wind Fish's Egg, in order to make it through the maze to the final boss.

This is where things get tricky. Although we can show you the set of instructions that we received from the book, it's likely that these directions are randomized between each playthrough of Link's Awakening on the Switch, as they were in the original game on the GameBoy.

Therefore, you need to take a screenshot, or note down, the directions you receive from the black book in the library. Then it's time to head back to the Wind Fish's Egg at the top of the map, because Link is finally ready to brave the maze.

Zelda Link's Awakening Wind Fish Egg Solution

Enter the Wind Fish's Egg, and proceed forward two rooms. You'll come to a huge chasm, which Link has no choice but to fall down. When you reach the ground unscathed, you want to head up one room, so that Link is in a room with four exit paths going up, down, left, and right.

It's at this point that you need to begin following the instructions you got from the book back in Mabe Village. So in our own playthrough of Link's Awakening, we had to go three rooms to the left, then one room up, one room left, one room up, one room left, and finally one last room up to reach the end of the maze. There are a few different variations on the puzzle, so you’ll need to find yours using the method above.

You'll know you've reached the end of the Wind Fish's Egg maze when Link finds a massive hole in the ground this time. It's time to face the final boss of the entire game, and for a walkthrough of how to beat all its 6 (!) stages, continue ahead to our Zelda Link's Awakening final boss guide.
