Zelda Breath of the Wild Best Shields

Check out the full list of the very best Breath of the Wild shields just below. It might be quite a journey from the starting point of the Great Plateau for Link to track some of these elusive items down, so make sure to stock up on potions and food before you venture out.

Ancient Shield

Like the Ancient Bow, Link will have to have completed Robbie's side quest at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab in order to purchase the Ancient Shield from him. While the Ancient Shield has a moderate durability, it's parry power is virtually unmatched in Breath of the Wild.

Whereas Link would have to parry at just the right time with other shields, the Ancient Shield doesn't require this when deflecting the beams of Guardians, meaning as long as the shield isn't at breaking point, Link has basically nothing to fear from the Guardians.

Daybreaker Shield

In order to obtain the Daybreaker Shield, Link will first of all have to travel to Gerudo Town within Gerudo Desert, in the south west corner of the map. Once there, he must speak to the village Elder and resolve the Divine Beast Vah Naboris problem, reclaiming it from the clutches of Calamity Ganon.

Although the Daybreaker Shield doesn't quite have the same parry powers as the previously mentioned Ancient Shield, it does have a far superior durability level, meaning that it's a trusty shield that Link can rely on throughout his adventures in Hyrule.

The Hylian Shield

Found deep within Hyrule Castle - effectively the final area of Breath of the Wild - the Hylian Shield is one of the most powerful items in the game for Link to possess. Giving him an unparalleled amount of protection from virtually all enemy attacks.

To reach the Hylian Shield, Link will have to journey deep into Hyrule Castle, to an area on the west side of the castle called the Lockup. You're best off approaching the castle itself from the rear, and then journeying round the outside area to the Lockup itself.

Hyrule Castle is an especially dangerous place, and should you need any help on guiding Link through it, consult our guide on how to make it through Hyrule Castle.

Royal Guard's Shield

Another item that can be found scattered around Hyrule Castle, the Royal Guard's Shield boasts an extremely high parry power, at the drawback of featuring a very low durability level, meaning it won't last long for Link.

Should you need to find the specific locations of the various Royal Guard's Shields found in the castle, or help on making it through the castle in general, head over to our guide on the entire Hyrule Castle area.

Savage Lynel Shield

As with the other powerful items that Lynels occasionally drop, like the Savage Lynel Crusher and Savage Lynel Spear, the Savage Lynel Shield is no different in power from the aforementioned unique items, boasting an extremely high parry power.

However, the Savage Lynel Shield can only be obtained by defeating either the white-maned or silver Lynels. In other words, Link will have to take down one of the toughest enemies in Hyrule in order to stand a chance of getting the Savage Lynel Shield. Silver Lynels can be found in the very north of the map in the Hebra region, while a white-maned Lynel can be found in the colosseum ruins.
