Tomb Raider film in the works

GK Films has acquired the Tomb Raider film rights and set its sights on a 2013 release.

According to Hollywood Reporter GK Films intends to "create daring new adventures for the young and dynamic Lara Croft".

The publication's sources suggested the film may be a reboot or origins story, as is Crystal Dynamics' upcoming game. No writer, director or talent has been announced.

GK Films is the production company of British filmmaker Graham King, whose recent credits include Rango and The Tourist, starring former Lara Croft actor Angelina Jolie.

The first two films based on the Tomb Raider series were produced by Paramount, who let the rights lapse to the Square Enix-owned Eidos after The Cradle of Life. A planned Warner Bros. adaptation never got off the ground; this proposed film was also heavily rumoured to be an origins story.

The first two films combined grossed $432 million globally.

Thanks, @miladesn.
