Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 won't be out this year, Blizzard confirms

Don't expect either of Blizzard's big games to be released this year.

As part of Activision's Q4 FY2020 earnings reveal on Thursday, the publisher touched a little bit on its other half, Blizzard Entertainment.

Blizzard saw a good quarter off the back of record-setting World of Warcraft expansion, Shadowlands. The studio is also looking forward to this year's launch of Diablo Immortal, the free-to-play mobile off-shoot currently in testing.

The biggest upcoming games from Blizzard, however, are still not ready. Those being, of course, Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2. Activision said in the earnings call that it does not expect either of the new games to launch in 2021.

This doesn't necessarily mean they're going to launch in 2022, as Blizzard typically likes to take its time polishing up its games. We're likely going to get another update, however, at some point in the year.

Diablo 4 was announced in November 2019 at BlizzCon. Blizzard has been sharing regular development updates on its website, but those are mostly high-level and only really meant for the hardcore. Overwatch 2 was announced on the same day in November, also at BlizzCon. Unlike Diablo 4, we know precious little about Overwatch 2.

That said, we are getting some update on Overwatch 2 at BlizzConline later this month, and we do hope Diablo 4 also shows up.
