Goodbye, Club Nintendo

Club Nintendo has shut up shop.

As announced back in January, Club Nintendo has closed down.

The program's website now displays a farewell message and thank you to all members, and promises more information on a successor soon.

Nintendo said download codes from Club Nintendo need tobe redeemed by July 31 or they'll just expire, and promised physical rewards will ship by the end of September this year. An FAQ is available if you have any other queries.

Nintendo is yet to detail what will replace the loyalty program, although we do know it will be platform-agnostic, so you can maintain a persistent identity across 3DS, Wii U, NX and probably mobile, too. There's some suggestion it will include rewards for those who make digital purchases, since Nintendo isn't going to lower its eShop prices.

First launched in 2002, Club Nintendo awarded points called Coins to members in exchange for registering official Nintendo products and participating in feedback programs. These Coins could be exchanged for game download codes and other goodies including exclusive physical merchandise.
