Gold Amiibo sold out, selling at five times RRP on auction sites

Gold Mario Amiibo are expected to sell for pretty astounding profits on eBay and other auction sites.

The Walmart-exclusive Gold Mario Amiibo is already completely sold out.

Plenty of people managed to snaffle them to resell, though. There are now dozens of listings on eBay and other auction sites.

One of the average asking prices is $65 - literally five times the $13 RRP.

Some sellers are more modestly asking for $20, while others think they can get up to $100.

One pre-order even went for $1,500, apparently; I sure hope this transaction was cancelled given how many are now available at a fraction of that price.

Demand for the gold Amiibo was likely increased by Nintendo's lack of communication. The figures were first discovered as CISPA certificates, and then leaked by retail displays, before Nintendo finally bothered to announce them yesterday - just before they went on sale.

Given how whimsical it's been about whether it's going to restock sold-out Amiibo, collectors are a little bit frantic. If Nintendo releases a second batch of these, well - there are going to be some angry auction winners out there.

Thanks, Kotaku.
