GAME will open stores for Xbox Series X launch on November 10 despite UK Covid lockdown

UK High Street retailer GAME will be opening its doors for the launch of the new Xbox consoles, despite the upcoming coronavirus lockdown.

In a post on Twitter, the chain said that its stores would be open on November 10 between 8am and 2pm so that folks who pre-ordered Microsoft's new consoles can pick them up. The firm also said that customers can pre-order the hardware in-store until the evening of Wednesday, November 4.

This follows the UK government announcing a month of lockdown restrictions that come into effect on Thursday, November 5.

As with the stay-at-home orders earlier in the year, "non-essential" businesses will be forced to close. This, of course, is less than ideal for the already-struggling physical games retail sector, especially when there are two new consoles on the horizon.

There's no word yet about what GAME has planned for the PlayStation 5 launch on November 19, but we've reached out to the retailer to see if it can shed any light on the matter.

GAME has also said on Twitter that it can't guarantee that customers who have not pre-ordered either of the new consoles will be able to get their hands on one on launch day as it doesn't have stock confirmation yet. The retailer recommends that those looking to pick up the new hardware keep an eye on its website to keep up to date.
