Dragon Quest X's playable races and story premise unveiled

Square Enix has begun to dribble information on Dragon Quest X.

The new details emerged from the latest issue of Shounen Jump, as reported by Andriasang, and revealed five playable races: Ogre, Elf, Dwarf, Pukuripo, and Wedi.

The game will also feature humans, but it's not clear whether they'll be playable or not. Instead, they seem to occupy a central role in the story, with players out to solve a mysterious problem in the human world.

The game world, Astoldia, has six land masses including an island chain, but while five are named as the home territory of one of the races, the sixth remains mysterious. Apparently plagued by troubles, it's very likely the human's home base.

New screenshots and artworks were shown in the magazine, so expect a general asset release soon, as well as more information out of the Tokyo Games Show.

Dragon Quest X was revealed last week as an online, MMORPG-like RPG for Wii and Wii U. It's expected to release in Japan in 2012.
