The success of Gwent in The Witcher 3 has got fans thinking developer CD Projekt Red would want to repeat it with Cyberpunk 2077.
The Witcher 3’s Gwent, an in-game, fully-featured card game, was an unexpected hit with players. CD Projekt Red eventually spun it off into its own game, so many rightly assumed the same would be true for Cyberpunk 2077.
In fact, CD Projekt Red wouldn’t even have to design a new card game, since that universe already has Netrunner as its own card game. Although the developer has already commissioned a physical card game called Afterlife, it’s not going to create an in-game card game within Cyberpunk 2077.
CD Projekt Red’s Rafal Jacki clarified this once and for all on Reddit that Cyberpunk 2077 won’t have an in-universe card game, Netrunner or otherwise.
“Sorry all but we are not doing Netrunner in any way – I’m a fan of the game myself but we decided to create something new and stand alone,” wrote Jacki.
“No plans to have a card game in the Cyberpunk 2077 video game.”
Cyberpunk 2077 is due out April 16 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. We’ll see more of the game at gamescom this month.
