Recompile is a sci-fi Metroidvania where you play as a rogue piece of code

Recompile is a new 3D Metroidvania action game from Phigames.

Set within a digital wasteland known as The Mainframe, Recompile tells the story of a “semi-sentient” rogue piece of code trapped within The Mainframe.

A narrative about artificial intelligence, and machine sentience will unfold as you’re pitted against The Mainframe’s agents, and the various obstacles it places in your way. Recompile’s gameplay is a mix of platforming, action, and the occasional hacking, and puzzle solving.

Developer Phigames promises a dynamic story that alters the game’s world based on player decisions, enough to accommodate several different endings. The game’s art style is very striking, and is certainly one of the best representations of code and neural networks I have seen in a game.

Recompile is due out on PC in 2020, and you can see it in action through the reveal trailer below:
