Dutch Dota 2 players can see what’s in their next loot box

Dota 2’s loot system now tells you exactly what treasure is available before you buy it.

Valve has been playing catch-up with in the Netherlands over the last month when it was found to be in violation of the Better Gaming Act. In response, the publisher has been tweaking how it presents loot boxes in the country. In the case of Dota 2, that means you can see what a loot box contains before purchasing it.

If you’re playing Dota 2 in the Netherlands and go to buy treasure, you’ll see a small text box below the purchase confirmation that describes one of the items. “After receiving it, one or more other items from the treasure will become available,” the game explains. The detail was first spotted on Reddit and reported by GamesIndustry.biz.

It seems the treasure item is fixed until you buy it, even if you reset the game. So no, you can’t just keep restarting until you find the specific loot you want.

Valve also disabled item trading for the Netherlands last month. We shouldn’t be surprised if further changes to the publisher’s in-game economies are forthcoming.
