Look back over what changed – and what didn’t – in the nine years The Last Guardian was in development

The Last Guardian has come a long, long way since the first leaked target render video.

The Last Guardian was originally intended as Team Ico’s first PS3 game, and sometimes it’s hard to remember just how long it’s been since we first began holding our breath.

In the video above, Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry compares the earliest known footage of The Last Guardian with the first public trailer, its re-reveal and the final game on PS4 and PS4 Pro.

Trico not behaving? Maybe our The Last Guardian walkthrough and guide will help.

Although the game’s design was shaped by its origins as a PS3 title, The Last Guardian features a number of rad effects and impressive tech, and as the video notes, it’s kind of amazing it ever came out at all. Maybe we can forgive its performance issues.

It’s really interesting to look back on the almost decade we’ve been waiting for The Last Guardian and to have it in our hands now. Sony and the core of Team Ico really made good on a promise many companies would have quietly shelved.
