We might get a new Resident Evil game before April 2017

Capcom has promised investors it will release three new "major titles" over the next financial year in addition to its known line-up.

Of these, one will be a Monster Hunter title and is expected to sell around 2 million units. One of the other two is also pegged for 2 million units, while the third is a biggie at 4 million units.

4 million units is fairly significant outside the Call of Duty tier, so it looks like this one is a major title - and of course, our first suspicion is that a new Resident Evil game is on the way.

This not particularly inspired leap of logic is helped along by Capcom's plans for a "full-scale offensive" on Resident Evil this year.

Personally I think Capcom and our ideas of a "full scale offensive" probably diverge significantly, and I wouldn't be surprised to find we get Umbrella Corps, a low-budget anime, a new mobile game and 16 metric s**t tons of merchandise, but there! I'm very bitter and jaded. Don't be like me, kids.

It's probably also worth remembering that Capcom has been sitting on Deep Down since the PS4 reveal in February 2013. The four-player co-op dungeon diver seemed to take notes from Dark Souls and its family, which was pretty interesting, but was delayed repeatedly. Our last update, in early-2015, suggested Capcom's plans for the game had expanded significantly - and co-producer Yoshinori Ono has no doubt been pretty distracted by Street Fighter 5.

Still, with Dragon's Dogma Online doing pretty well for Capcom, the publisher should be feeling fairly confident in its plans to focus on the online sphere. It's not impossible the vaporous Panta Rhei flagship will come to light at last.
