The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt won over 250 Game of the Year awards worldwide in 2015; CD Projekt CEO Marcin Iwiński wants to ensure that the developer’s future games receive the same level of care and attention.
Witcher publisher CD Projekt wants to “follow Rockstar model”
Speaking in an interview with Matthew Handrahan Gamesindustry.biz, Iwiński discusses the success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – which has won over 250 Game of the Year awards worldwide – and how it has shaped their attitudes towards game development going forward.
Musing on how the publisher can maintain this level of quality and acclaim, Iwiński says that the key is to focus their large teams onto fewer projects.
“The Witcher finished with 80 people, The Witcher 3 finished with 250, so Cyberpunk will probably be even more. Don’t think about scale in terms of us doing 20 projects; no, we’ll focus, we’ll focus on certain things… We don’t want to be a 10 project studio. The Rockstar model is nice.”
He also promises that Cyberpunk 2077 will be a more ambitious game than The Witcher 3 “on every single front”.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt released last year. More information on the second and final expansion pack, Blood and Wine, will appear next month. In the meantime, our own Brenna Hillier’s extensive guide should help you get ready for it.
