You can change the perks of your House of Wolves weapons in Destiny if you don't like what you got. But you can't do that without knowing the best perks available.
The concept of Reforging was introduced to Destiny with the House of Wolves expansion. Using it, anyone can re-roll the perks on some weapons to get different ones. There are plenty of perks and plenty of weapons.
