Crown of the Sunken King casts a new light on Dark Souls 2's lore

Dark Souls 2 and its DLC carry on the tradition of the Souls family by never really making the lore and backstory explicit, but the new Crown of the Sunken King DLC offers some great clues for the faithful.

The Dark Souls 2 lore video below, by YouTuber VaatiVidya, blends a logical unpacking of known lore with some speculation to detail one of the most interesting story threads the game offers.

The video is packed full of spoilers for both vanilla Dark Souls 2 and the Crown of the Sunken King DLC, so don't dive in if you're keen to explore for yourself.

One of my favourite things about the Souls series is how deceptively simple the stories are. With few cutscenes and little exposition, it's up to the player to explore the world and piece together the tragic tales of what brought these lands to ruin. Read item descriptions, talk to everyone, examine symbols and think well on what you glean and you'll uncover a rich, deep backstory. I can't wait to see what's going on in Bloodborne!
