Sony: EA Access subscription for Xbox One isn't "good value"

Sony has said that it turned down EA's monthly subs service EA Access because it isn't good value for the player.

Speaking to Game Informer, a Sony rep said: "We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect.”

EA Access was announced last night as an Xbox One exclusive. Players pay $5 per month for unlimited access to EA games such as FIFA and Battlefield, as well as some hands-on time with games pre-release.

But Sony isn't convinced that's a good idea.

“PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200 percent since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price," said Sony.

"We don’t think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer."
