Capcom shifts focus to “online games such as Deep Down,” Monster Hunter 4 to sell additional 3.9M units

Capcom has plans in place to ensure continued success in the video game market by reinforcing its DLC strategy, creating titles exclusively for online games, focusing on the PC market outside of Japan, and expects to sell 3.9 million additional copies worldwide of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate/Monster Hunter 4G upon its release in the west.

The firm’s strategy was revealed in a slide presentation released with its latest financial report.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is planned for a North America release in calender 2015, and the Monster Hunter series as a whole as of Capcom’s latest financial report, has sold over 28 million copies.

The firm also released lifetime figures for some of its other popular gaming franchises:

  • Resident Evil – 61 million units
  • Devil May Cry – 13 million units
  • Street Fighter – 35 million units
  • Lost Planet – 5.6 million units
  • Dead Rising – 7.5 million units

Capcom also plans to “upgrade quality and accumulate know-how by developing more titles internally;” develop titles for Japan and overseas
while increasing development-marketing collaboration; introduce Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate; focusing on fewer titles; and develop titles exclusively for online games, such as Deep Down for the PS4.

Even with it’s plans for mid-term and year-end growth, the firm dies foresee a drop in sales volume due to the “dual effects of a hardware
transitional period,” and its and business restructuring.
